Venezuelan View: Games of November 1

A good day for Aaron Hicks.  Altherr alters the outcome for Zulia.  Eggleston eggs on Caracas to victory.

MARGARITA 6, MAGALLANES 2 IN MARGARITA

Twins:  Aaron Hicks was 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI.

Magallanes:  Juan Rivera (Arizona) was 1-for-4 with a two-run homer.  Chris Dominguez (San Francisco) was 2-for-3 with a walk.  David Martinez (Houston) struck out seven in 5.1 innings, giving up three runs (two earned) on eight hits and no walks.

Margarita:  Mario Martinez (Boston) was 2-for-4 with two doubles, scoring once and driving in one.  Junior Sosa (Pittsburgh) was 2-for-4 with two doubles and a run.  Eric Berger (Atlanta) pitched six innings, allowing two runs on six hits and a walk with three strikeouts.

The game:  A wild pitch put Margarita ahead 3-2 in the fourth.  Margarita put the game out of reach with a three-run seventh, with two scoring on a Manny Pina (Detroit) double.

ZULIA 2, LARA 1 IN LARA (12 INNINGS)

Zulia:  Giovanny Urshela (Cleveland) was 3-for-5 with a walk and a run.  Mark Minicozzi (San Francisco) was 3-for-5 with two walks.  Eric Marzec (Milwaukee) pitched eight innings, giving up one run on seven hits and no walks with two strikeouts.

Lara:  Carlos Rivero (Boston) was 2-for-4 with a double.  Maikol Gonzalez (Angels) was 2-for-5.  Eduardo Figueroa (Cubs) struck out six in five shutout innings, allowing four hits and three walks.

The game:  Paulo Orlando (Kansas City) singled in a run with two out in the bottom of the ninth to send the game to extra innings.  Aaron Altherr (Philadelphia) singled in what turned out to be the winning run in the top of the twelfth.  The last nine Lara batters were retired, five by strikeout.

ARAGUA 6, ANZOATEGUI 2 IN ARAGUA

Anzoategui:  Niuman Romero (Baltimore) was 3-for-5 with a double and a run.  Oscar Salazar was 2-for-4 with two doubles.  Daryl Thompson pitched five innings, giving up two runs on five hits and a walk with two strikeouts.

Aragua:  Renato Nunez (Oakland) was 1-for-4 with a two-run homer, his fourth.  Alex Romero was 0-for-2 with two walks and two runs.  Cesar Carrillo pitched five innings, allowing one run on six hits and a walk with two strikeouts.

The game:  Teodoro Martinez (Texas) hit a two-run single to cap a three-run sixth that put Aragua up 5-1.

CARACAS 9, LA GUAIRA 2 IN LA GUAIRA

Caracas:  Daniel Mayora (Dodgers) was 2-for-4 with a walk, scoring twice and driving in two.  Aharon Eggleston was 1-for-4 with a triple and a walk, scoring once and driving in three.  Jarrett Grube (Angels) struck out six in 5.1 innings, giving up two runs on six hits and a walk.

La Guaira:  Luis Sardinas (Texas) was 3-for-4 with a run.  Odubel Herrera (Texas) was 2-for-4 with a double and a run.  Yorfrank Lopez (Detroit) pitched two shutout innings, allowing only a walk.

The game:  Caracas scored on a double play in the fourth to go ahead 3-2 and scored four in the sixth to put the game out of reach.  Eggleston had a three-run triple in the inning.
