    If there's any positive, when they're getting blown out every night for the next month and a half, maybe people will shut it about his shooting.

      4. No, his column will blame Joe Mauer for the other pro sports following his example. He's the biggest star athlete and highest-paid athlete in Minnesota and the other teams are following suit by allowing players to accept their paychecks without taking the field/court/ice.

        btw, contrary to popular myth, Ellis Island was not in the habit of doling out different or Americanized names for immigrants coming through there.

          1. Seconded Thirded! Some Nth cousin did a lot of research that we have and I've wanted to be able to merge it with what other people have dabbled in over time.

        2. Seconding doc: Yes! Please do. I have begun searching for my great-grandmother's immigration records. My mom and I are preparing a trip to Hungary next year. It will be the first time anyone in our family has been in Hungary in over a century. One of the things complicating the trip back is figuring out exactly where her village was, as it likely had a German name then and a Hungarian one now. (I know the German name, but want to be certain we visit the right place.)

        4. Ditto. My wife's family tree is going to be hard to beat, she can trace one branch back to John Alden of Mayflower fame, and another back to the Cartier family that sort of founded Canada.

    2. There's a possibility I'm related to one Lawrence McGuire, Sr., born 1725 in Virginia and died at Valley Forge during the Revolution. That's on Ancestry from a tree someone else did that includes a possible forefather of mine, where name and birthplace match, but the birth year are off (1832 v.1834). It's close enough it's worth digging into more.

      That's as far back as I've been able to find so far. Still no idea when my family came over from Ireland. I'd definitely welcome an article on further researching such things.

      1. Mrs. Runner's direct line family came over from Ireland, and James Morgan fought at Gettysburg with the 14th out of Vermont. But a larger chunk of her family was out of the South.

        1. My greatX4 grandfather (with high probability, anway) appears on a roll for a militia in Lancaster Co., PA during the Revolution, but no real evidence that he saw action. He and wife and (some of) his kids immigrated from Germany prior to the war.

    2. My brother is at the game with his future brothers-in-law. He has no rooting interest either way.

    1. Bad start and a late fumble. Illinois had a bye before beating Minn, who was probably looking forward to the bye. I think the bye helped them against Iowa and hurt them against Illinois.

  7. Today I wore my Twins jacket over my Vikings sweatshirt over my Cleveland Browns tee shirt. So I was warmly wrapped in three layers of futility.
