  1. words to live by, as seen in an Internet comment thread: "Never, ever, EVER, use the Internet to prove your wife wrong."

  2. Let's play a HOF game:

    Pitcher A: 216-146 (.597), 3.46 ERA. Postseason record 11-2, 2.23
    Pitcher B: 210-147 (.588), 3.26. Postseason record 15-4, 2.67
    Pitcher C: 270-153 (.638), 3.68. Postseason record 7-8, 3.42

One of these players has been voted into the Hall of Fame. The other two have not.

            1. But not the other, non-Smoltz one? Interesting, I've generally considered those two to be very similar in career performance. The character clause does pull the other one down a good amount I think.

        Yay.

In all seriousness the advances in medical procedures for the last (what like 200?) years are amazing.

  3. Ugh, all sorts of fun this morning. I woke up this morning, turned my car on to find the glow plug light flashing. I looked it up and the first result indicated it may be a brake light switch malfunction. So I went outside and checked and, sure enough, no brake lights. Of course, this was the day my wife was planning to take the kids to her sister's, so I had nothing to drive. I took my wife's car in to work quick to grab my laptop in case that wasn't the problem and it was something much worse, picked up a new switch on the way home (all of $6 worth). Once the kids were situated and on their way to the Dells, it took me a whole ten minutes to replace and I made the commute back in to work. Great start to the day.

    1. I have a hard time wrapping my head around the concept that Elvis would be the same age as my parents.

        1. Uh huh. And my parents were not fans of the rock-and/or-roll when I was a kid. Hence my bewonderment.
