Minor Details: Games of June 15

Greg Peavey paints a Birmingham.  Another good game for Mat Batts.  A good day for Alex Real wasn't nearly enough for the Kernels.  Two touchdowns for the DSL Twins.

ROCHESTER RED WINGS

No game scheduled.

CHATTANOOGA 4, BIRMINGHAM 1 IN BIRMINGHAM

Batting stars:  Adam Brett Walker II was 4-for-5 with two doubles, scoring once and driving in one.  Max Kepler was 4-for-5 with a run.  Miguel Sano was 1-for-4 with a home run (his twelfth) and a walk.

Pitching stars:  Greg Peavey pitched eight innings, giving up one run on three hits and a walk with five strikeouts.  Zach Jones pitched a scoreless inning, giving up a hit and a walk with one strikeout.

Opposition stars:  Chris Curley was 1-for-3 with a home run.  Tony Bucciferro pitched 3.2 scoreless innings, allowing two hits and a walk with two strikeouts.

The game:  Stuart Turner singled in a run in the second, Walker II doubled in a run in the fourth, and Sano homered in the eighth to give the Lookouts a 3-0 lead.  Curley got one back with a homer in the bottom of the eighth, but the Lookouts got the run back in the ninth when Stephen Wickens walked and stole second, third, and home.  I can't tell if it was a straight steal of home--runners were on first and third and the runner from first did not steal second, but he may have bluffed and drawn a throw.

Of note:  Jorge Polanco was 0-for-5.

FORT MYERS 3, DAYTONA 2 IN FORT MYERS

Batting stars:  Engelb Vielma was 2-for-3 with an RBI.  Zach Granite was 1-for-3 with two runs.

Pitching stars:  Mat Batts pitched six innings, giving up two runs on five hits and no walks with four strikeouts.  D. J. Johnson pitched 1.1 scoreless innings, giving up a walk with one strikeout.  Alex Muren struck out four in 1.2 scoreless innings, giving up one hit.

Opposition stars:  Junior Felix Arias was 1-for-4 with a home run, his fifth.  Nick Routt pitched 4.1 innings, allowing an unearned run on three hits and a walk with one strikeout.

The game:  Arias homered in the first and Chad Wallach had an RBI double in the second to put the Tortugas up 2-0.  Vielma singled in a run in the third, but it stayed 2-1 until the sixth, when Ryan Walker's RBI single tied it 2-2.  In the seventh, a hit batsman, a single, and an error brought home the go-ahead run.  The Tortugas got the tying run to third with one out in the eighth and to second with one out in the ninth, but could not tie the score.

Or note:  Alex Swim was 1-for-4.  Marcus Knecht was 1-for-4.

The game:  Leblebijian hit a two-run homer in the second and the Lugnuts added three in the third to go up 5-0.  Real homered in the fifth to get the Kernels on the board but the deficit never got smaller than four runs.

Of note:  Edgar Corcino was 0-for-4.  Nick Gordon was 0-for-3 with a walk.  Zack Larson was 0-for-4.  Brett Doe was 1-for-4.  Rafael P. Valera was 0-for-4.  Jared Wilson pitched four innings, giving up five runs on seven hits and three walks with one strikeout.
