Minor Details: Games of August 15

Michael Bowden and Reynaldo Rodriguez lead the Red Wings.  Max Kepler homers in a Lookouts loss.  A nice win for the Miracle.  Sam Gibbons pitches well in a Kernels loss.  The GCL Twins get blanked.  A DSL Twins comeback falls short.

ROCHESTER 3, SCRANTON/WILKES-BARRE 2 IN ROCHESTER

Batting stars:  Reynaldo Rodriguez was 2-for-4 with a home run (his fifteenth) and a double.  Byron Buxton was 2-for-4.  Kennys Vargas was 1-for-3 with a run.

Pitching stars:  Michael Bowden struck out eight in seven innings, giving up two runs on five hits and a walk.  Mark Hamburger pitched 1.1 scoreless innings, giving up two hits and a walk with one strikeout.

Opposition stars:  Slade Heathcott was 2-for-4 with a double, scoring once and driving in one.  Ben Gamel was 1-for-3 with a double and a walk.  Kyle Davies pitched 6.1 innings, allowing three runs (one earned) on five hits and no walks with four strikeouts.

The game:  All the runs came in the seventh inning.  Heathcott had an RBI double and Cole Figueroa had a run-scoring single in the top of the inning.  The RailRiders missed a chance to score more, leaving men on second and third with two out.  Rodriguez homered leading off the bottom of the seventh.  A single and an error put men on second and third, a sacrifice fly scoring the tying run, and a balk scored the go-ahead run.  The RailRiders did not get a man past first after that.

Of note:  James Beresford was 0-for-4.  Oswaldo Arcia was 0-for-3.

TENNESSEE 4, CHATTANOOGA 1 IN CHATTANOOGA

Batting star:  Max Kepler was 1-for-4 with a home run, his eighth.

Pitching stars:  Alex Muren pitched two perfect innings.  Corey Williams struck out two in a scoreless inning, giving up only a walk.

Opposition stars:  Jacob Hannemann was 2-for-4 with a home run (his fourth) and two runs.  Stephen Bruno was 2-for-3 with a walk and an RBI.  Ryan Williams pitched six innings, giving up one run on three hits and two walks with four strikeouts.

The game:  Kepler homered in the first to put the Lookouts up 1-0.  The lead held until the fifth.  An error brought home the tying run and RBI singles by Jacob Rogers and Bruno made it 3-1 Smokies.  Hannemann homered in the sixth to make it 4-1.  The last twelve Lookouts were retired.

Of note:  Stephen Wickens was 1-for-4.  D. J. Hicks was 0-for-4.  Adam Brett Walker II was 0-for-4.  D. J. Baxendale pitched six innings, giving up four runs (two earned) on nine hits and two walks with no strikeouts.

FORT MYERS 5, PALM BEACH 1 IN FORT MYERS

Batting stars:  Aderlin Mejia was 1-for-3 with a double and two walks, scoring three times and driving in two.  Mitch Garver was 2-for-3 with a double and a walk, driving in two.

Pitching stars:  Ryan Eades pitched 4.2 innings, giving up one run on two hits and five walks with two strikeouts.  Brian Gilbert pitched 1.1 scoreless innings, giving up a walk.  Trevor Hildenberger struck out four in two perfect innings.

Opposition stars:  Collin Radack was 1-for-4 with a triple and a run, scoring once.  Nick Petree pitched five innings, allowing two runs on four hits and three walks with three strikeouts.

The game:  Radack tripled and scored to give the Cardinals a 1-0 lead in the second.  Two walks, a wild pitch, and a sacrifice fly tied it 1-1 after four.  Garver doubled in a run in the sixth to put the Miracle ahead 2-1.  Mejia had a two-run double and later scored in the seventh to put the game out of reach.

Of note:  Engelb Vielma was 0-for-3 with a walk and a run.  Ryan Walker was 1-for-4 with a double.

FORT WAYNE 3, CEDAR RAPIDS 1 IN FORT WAYNE

Batting stars:  Rafael P. Valera was 2-for-5 with two doubles and an RBI.  Pat Kelly was 3-for-4.  Nick Gordon was 2-for-4 with a double.

Pitching stars:  Sam Gibbons pitched seven innings, giving up three runs on seven hits and two walks with six strikeouts.  Jared Wilson pitched a perfect inning with one strikeout.

Opposition stars:  Trae Santos was 1-for-2 with a two-run homer ( his tenth) and a walk.  Luis Urias was 1-for-2 with a walk and a run.  Chris Huffman pitched six innings, allowing one run on eight hits and a walk with six strikeouts.

The game:  The TinCaps scored all of their runs in the second inning, with Santos hitting a two-run homer and Michael Gettys contributing an RBI single.  The lone Kernels run came in the fifth when Valera hit an RBI double.  The Kernels had their chances, putting two on in the fifth and sixth and getting a runner thrown out at the plate in the seventh, but did not score again.

Of note:  Edgar Corcino was 0-for-3 with a walk.  T. J. White was 1-for-4.

ELIZABETHTON AT BRISTOL

Rained out.

GCL RED SOX 3, GCL TWINS 0 AT RED SOX

Batting star:  Robert Molina was 1-for-3 with a double.

Pitching stars:  Eduardo Del Rosario pitched 5.1 innings, giving up two runs on four hits and a walk with four strikeouts.  Hector Lujan pitched 1.2 scoreless innings, giving up two hits with one strikeout.

Opposition stars:  Jerry Downs was 2-for-3 with a run and two RBIs.  Emmanuel De Jesus pitched six shutout innings of relief, allowing one hit and no walks with three strikeouts.  Logan Allen struck out five in three shutout innings, allowing two hits.

The game:  The Red Sox scored single runs in the fifth, sixth, and eighth.  The Twins did not get a man past second base and their last thirteen batters were retired.

Of note:  Christian Cavaness was 0-for-4.  Luis Arraez was 1-for-4.  Blake Schmit was 0-for-4.  Josmil Pinto was 0-for-3.

DSL RED SOX1 6, DSL TWINS 5 AT RED SOX1

Batting stars:  Darling Cuesto was 3-for-3 with a double and a walk, scoring twice and driving in one.  Gorge Munoz was 2-for-5 with an RBI.  Yeltsin Encarnacion was 1-for-5 with a run and an RBI.

Pitching star:  Andriu Marin struck out two in a scoreless inning, giving up a walk.

Opposition stars:  Eddy Reynoso was 3-for-4 with an RBI.  Hemerson Serven was 1-for-5 with two runs and an RBI.  Nicolo Clemente pitched three shutout innings, allowing two hits and a walk with one strikeout.

The game:  Dawill Aponte tripled in a run and later scored in the first to put the Red Sox1 up 2-0.  The Twins took the lead in the second by scoring three times, but a Twins error in the bottom of the second allowed the tying run to score.  Reynoso singled in a run in the third to make it 4-3 Red Sox1.  Single runs in the fifth and seventh made it 6-3.  In the ninth, however, the Twins scored twice and had the tying run on second with two out.  A strikeout ended the game.

Of note:  Antonio Tovar was 1-for-4 with a walk.  Jorge Parra was 1-for-5 with a run.  Miguel De Jesus struck out six in five innings, but gave up five runs (three earned) on six hits and a walk.
