September 13, 2015: Month to Month

Slow hiring processes by multiple companies mean we'll probably be waiting it out here for a while. Well, the premium for month-to-month rent is only half of what we feared, so whatever.

  1. Chattanooga lost to Montgomery 6-5 in eleven innings, tying their series at one game apiece. Jorge Polanco led the offense, going 2-for-5 with a two-run homer. Jason Wheeler pitched six innings, giving up one run on three hits and two walks with five strikeouts, but the bullpen let the Lookouts down.

Cedar Rapids held off a Peoria rally in the ninth and won the first game of their series 3-2. Max Murphy hit a two-run homer and LaMonte Wade, brought up from Elizabethton in September, went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Keaton Steele pitched an excellent game, striking out nine in eight innings and giving up one run on two hits and no walks.

The Lookouts go to Montgomery for game three of their series. Cedar Rapids comes home to play Peoria in game two of their series. The Kernels' game begins at 4:00 Central and the Lookouts' game starts at 5:30.

  2. I'm so sorry Citizens.
I knew I shouldn't have done it...it's just that...Tommy Milone had been pitching well, and the Twins were on a bit of a run. Pitching against the Sox I figured they had a good chance for a win. I'm mostly just scrounging for innings and wins at this point. Wouldn't it be fun just once to have my fantasy baseball and real-life baseball interests coincide? Should that be too much to ask? I'd like to think I can pick up a Twin every now and then without him tanking into his (second) shortest outing of the season. Alas, it's not to be.

As a hedge, though, I picked up Yovani Gallardo, who also had arguably his (second) worst outing of the season, so no ground lost on Texas. There's that. I'm going to have to rethink my strategy.

Tyler Duffey is available tomorrow against the Tigers. Somebody should probably pick him up just to save me from myself.

    1. Didn't the "Not Top 10" have a longstanding clip last year of Florida players blocking each other? This should outdo that one.

  3. When we first got Harper I tried to get her to play Frisbee, but she was more interested in chewing them than chasing them, so we focused on playing catch with tennis balls. Lately, though, we've gone back to trying Frisbee and she's much better at it now than she was before. She loves the floaters where she can make really high jumping catches and she's pretty athletic, she just has to learn how to read the flight of the disk a little better. The neighborhood park where I take her has a little league field on it, so I'm also trying to teach her how to play second base. I have her sit and wait at her position, walk back to home plate and then throw her a ground ball or a big bouncer that she catches and runs back to me at the plate. Eventually I want to teach her all of the infield positions, but one thing at a time.

  4. Going into today's slate, only 3.5 games separate Houston, Texas and LA in the West, and only 5 games separate New York, Texas, Minnesota and LA in the Wild Card standings. Is September fun or what?

  5. I don't want to alarm anyone, but with 20 games to go, the Twins control their own destiny to get into the playoffs.

HOU and TEX have 7 games remaining against each other
TEX and LA have 4 games remaining against each other
HOU and LA have 3 games remaining against each other

All of which means that the highest win total the 2nd place AL West team can have is 92.

So, if the Twins go 18-2, they are guaranteed at least a game 163.

    1. Controlling your destiny is nice in theory, but there's something really gratifying about just getting lucky.
