Minor Details: Games of September 2

Aaron Hicks and Taylor Rogers have big days as Loek Van Mil makes his return to the Twins organization.  Ethan Mildren pitched well in a Miracle loss.  Randy Rosario leads the Kernels to victory.

ROCHESTER 8, SCRANTON/WILKES-BARRE 1 IN ROCHESTER

Batting stars:  Aaron Hicks was 4-for-4 with a three-run homer (his third) and a double, scoring twice.  Danny Ortiz was 2-for-4 with two home runs, his fifteenth and sixteenth.  Carlos Paulino was 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI.

Pitching stars:  Taylor Rogers struck out seven in seven innings, giving up one run on six hits and one walk.  Loek Van Mil returned to the Twins organization and pitched two shutout innings, giving up a hit and a walk.

Opposition stars:  Aaron Judge was 2-for-3 with a walk.  Cito Culver was 1-for-3 with a triple and a run.  Rob Segedin was 2-for-4.

The game:  The Red Wings scored once in each of the first four innings to go up 4-1, then scored four in the seventh to put the game out of reach.  Hicks hit a three-run homer in that seventh inning.

Of note:  James Beresford was 1-for-3 with a walk and an RBI.  Reynaldo Rodriguez was 0-for-3 with an RBI.  Josmil Pinto was 1-for-4.

JUPITER 3, FORT MYERS 2 IN JUPITER (10 INNINGS)

Batting stars:  Ryan Walker was 2-for-5 with a double and an RBI.  Bryan Haar was 2-for-4 with a double.  Engelb Vielma was 2-for-5 with a run.

Pitching stars:  Ethan Mildren pitched 5.2 innings, giving up one run on four hits and one walk with two strikeouts.  Zach Jones retired all seven men he faced, striking out three of them.

Opposition stars:  James Roberts was 1-for-3 with a home run (his third) and a walk, scoring twice.  Chris Mazza retired all seven men he faced, striking out two of them.  Jose Diaz pitched 4.1 innings, allowing one run on three hits and three walks with three strikeouts.

The game:  Walker's RBI double in the fifth put the Miracle up 2-0.  They led 2-1 going to the bottom of the ninth, but the Hammerheads tied it on two singles and a sacrifice fly.  Roberts homered leading off the bottom of the tenth to give Jupiter the walkoff victory.

Of note:  Mitch Garver was 0-for-3 with two walks.  Logan Wade was 0-for-4.

CEDAR RAPIDS 7, WISCONSIN 1 IN WISCONSIN

Batting stars:  Austin Diemer was 1-for-2 with a two-run homer (his second) and two runs.  Alex Real was 1-for-4 with a triple and a run.  Max Murphy was 1-for-4 with a double and a run.

Pitching star:  Randy Rosario struck out eight in seven shutout innings, giving up five hits and three walks.

Opposition stars:  David Denson was 1-for-3 with a double and a walk, driving in one.  Luis Ortega struck out two in two perfect innings.  Elvis Rubio was 1-for-3 with a run and an RBI.

The game:  Chris Paul singled in two runs in the second to put the Kernels up 2-0.  Two errors helped them get three more in the fifth and Diemer hit a two-run homer in the seventh.  The lone Timber Rattler run came in the eighth on Denson's RBI double.

Of note:  Sean Miller was 1-for-4.  Nick Gordon was 1-for-4 with an RBI.  Edgar Corcino was 0-for-4.  T. J. White was 1-for-4 with a run.

  1. I was trying to figure out if I'd missed a Hicks demotion ... but I figured it out. Also, that image is pretty great.

    1. I'm just gratified that anyone is still reading them, as far behind as they are. I may have to figure out something different for next year.

      1. They're not necessarily conversation starters, but they get read. I've been following Sano, Buxton, Rosario, ABW, Berrios, Kepler, et al more through your updates than anywhere else the past few years.

        I like the Readers Digest versions you've been doing in the daily cuppa ... perhaps something like that?

        1. If it's easier for the Padre, I'd support something like that, since those have been quite enjoyable.

          And I'll echo CoC, these do get read. I love the service.

          1. Or maybe a combination of the two, doing full recaps when I have time, and doing shorter versions when I'm gone or don't have time. That might work for next year.
