October 23, 2015: The Effect of Meetings

I got passed over for a job (realistically, one that's still beneath me) last year and in the last couple of days my manager is finally kind of acknowledging that he blew it. I've been rumning this department without getting paid for it for about two years now, and one way or another, one of those two things have to change.

  1. AMR, given that we're a little bit out of practice and were both carrying umbrellas, I thought that was impressively smooth.

    1. I would never have thought of this complication. I can only imagine how many discreet handoffs have been foiled by inclement weather.

    2. I'm totally gonna have an idea of something to handoff soon and we won't run into each other until January.

  2. So, I really thought a lot about these law school classmates of mine yesterday. I don't ever want to complain, because I'm doing fine, but it kind of irks me that these people, who provide, at best, an infinitesimally small benefit to society have reaped a very large amount of compensation, while I provide a lot of service to my company for a lot less. Again, I'm not complaining about what I have -- it just seems that they have gotten too much. I know. Life isn't fair.

Maybe this is all an excuse to present the following (I hope it shows up):

    If not, go here .

    1. This is par for the course in local broadcasting, or any other industry with a star system. Folks on air make all the money and get all the credit for success, behind the scenes people make doodley-squat and get all the blame for any failure. I really shouldn't have been surprised when I was able to double my income by leaving broadcast journalism for technology marketing.

    2. When I was in tenth grade my English teacher told me that the fair comes in August. When we moved to Texas I discovered that the fair doesn't come at all, just the rodeo.

    3. In recent years, I've had a colleague who is 1) male and 2) extroverted. It was interesting (well, interesting might be the wrong word) seeing how well respected he was and how much more he was paid than me. This is despite the fact that the projects I oversaw brought in more money. I don't really care about getting a lot of attention for the work I do, but I do care about compensation.
