USA in COPA2016 semi-finals tonight against Lionel Messi and the sky blue-striped Argentines. Can Clint Dempsey continue to have a tournament for the ages? How many times will Michael Bradley mishandle a simple pass? Can Jurgy come up with a decent line-up without Bobby Wood and Jermaine Jones?
What? Twin log? Oh yeah, Tyler Duffy v. Aaron Nola. Beautiful night at the ballpark. Also Ryan Howard brings his .145 average to Target Field, so that's something too.
I hate Peter Bourjos.
Now 6 of 33 HRs vs. Twins. That's 18% of career HRs despite only 4.8% of PAs vs. Twins. Not quite Luis Rivas vs. the KC, since he hit 12 of 20 career HRs vs. Royals.
game log so far -
TWINS BASEBALL!!!
boo 1st inning runs
walks will haunt
triples are sexy
boo give back runs
SEND HIM!!
unlike solo homers, 2-run homers will hurt you
So will hanging curveballs and mislocated fastballs when behind the count.
Twins have now allowed 4+ runs in 20 consecutive games. That has to be a record.
The longest streak prior to this in this season was 5.
Longest streak this decade prior to this was a 12-gamer in 2011. No other streaks reached double digits. I'll investigate further later.
Easy. 1977, 19 games is the Twins record.
Here's the teams they tied and those ahead of them.
That's right, not even the longest this season.
Only the fifth time this century of 20+ game streak.
Phillies have been awful offensively, especially of late. If the streak doesn't end this series, I think we're looking at a record of consistent futility.
Not listening now. Is Milone warming?
Cue clown music.
How did Plouffe get Blanco out at home unassisted?
Like how Cueto did.
Now I know how fans of the Dominican Summer League feel.
So the USMNT might not be quite as good as Argentina.
That Messi free kick was unreal.
Just as long as it doesn't get to 7-0.
Yup that wasn't even human.
OTOH, who would have thought that Wondo would be involved in the awfulness that led to the goal (not his foul, but his giveaway leading up to his foul)
Suzuki?????
Blind squirrel and all that.
Twins have scored 4+ runs in an inning only 4 times prior to today, when they did it twice. They're season high was 5 runs in an inning (done twice). Apparently, having numerous out-machines in your lineup is not conducive to big innings. Also, the Twins set a season high when they scored their 10th run of the game. And that was in the fifth inning.
Twins are winless this season when allowing more than 5 runs.
Q: Why doesn't Molitor leave his relievers in for more than one inning?
A: He doesn't want the opposing batters to see them for a third time.
Well, with 102 relievers on the roster, why would you pitch anyone more than one inning?
and... yes, that was an opposite field double by Dozier. Weird!
It might help matters if they only pitch the starters for one inning.
More likely he's deathly afraid of one of his relieves being unavailable for 1 game.
Molly shoulda limited Tonkin to one inning.
Well, at least one less batter.
I am laughing at Rhu's Q-A to keep from crying.
Suzuki a triple away from a cycle. You'll excuse me if I don't hold my breath.
Breathing?
Welp!
First one to 15 wins!
One more to go!
SUZUKI YOU WEREN'T SUPPOSED TO STOP AT SECOND COME ON THIS WAS YOUR ONLY CHANCE.
Suzuki so should have gone for the triple on that.
Not watching...would he have had any chance!?
Nonzero chance.
But still...
I think he had a shot. It looked like he was at second when the throw to second happened. A bad throw to third and he makes it.
And at this point in the season, who really cares? Spin those wheels, Suzy!
aww, should've tried to stretch that out to a triple.
