Minor Details: Games of July 24

Better late than never.  Not much offense at the upper levels, plenty at the lowest levels.

SYRACUSE 6, ROCHESTER 0 IN SYRACUSE

Jason Martinson hit a two-run homer in a five-run third that put the Chiefs up 6-0.  Pat Dean has not been pitching well at all since going back to Rochester.  This time he pitched five innings and gave up six runs on eight hits and two walks with two strikeouts.  D. J. Baxendale struck out the only man he faced, keeping his AAA ERA at zero through 12.1 innings.  J. T. Chargois gave up one hit in a scoreless inning.  In 30 AAA innings, his ERA is 1.20, his WHIP is 0.97, and he has 37 strikeouts with 7 walks.  John Ryan Murphy had half of the Red Wings hits, going 2-for-3.

JACKSON 4, CHATTANOOGA 3 IN JACKSON (12 INNINGS)

The Lookouts took a 3-0 lead in the fourth but did not score again.  In the twelfth, an error and two singles brought home the winning run.  Stephen Gonsalves pitched five shutout innings but ran into trouble in the sixth.  His line is five innings, two runs, three hits, and seven walks with no strikeouts.  The awesome Chattanooga broadcaster, Larry Ward, indicated that the plate umpire had a terrible strike zone.  Zack Jones pitched 1.1 scoreless innings to lower his ERA to 0.68.  Trevor Hildenberger gave up an unearned run in 2.1 innings to drop his ERA to 0.72.  Engelb Vielma was 2-for-4 with a double and a walk.  Edgar Corcino was 2-for-5 with a triple.  D. J. Hicks was also 2-for-5.

CLEARWATER 7, FORT MYERS 2 IN CLEARWATER

Two singles, a walk, and two more singles produced three second-inning runs for the Threshers, giving them a 3-0 lead.  Miles Nordgren pitched five innings, giving up four runs (three earned) on six hits and two walks with three strikeouts.  Reynaldo Rodriguez continued his rehab assignment by going 1-for-4 with a home run (his second) and is batting .308.  Nick Gordon was 0-for-3 with a walk and is batting .302.

CEDAR RAPIDS 10, DAYTON 6 IN CEDAR RAPIDS

The Kernels scored four in the first to take the lead and four in the seventh to put the game out of reach.  Cody Stashak pitched six innings, giving up four runs on six hits and two walks with four strikeouts.  Sean Miller was 2-for-3 with a double and a walk.  Nelson Molina was 2-for-4 with a double.  Luis Arraez was 1-for-4 with a walk and is batting .333.

ELIZABETHTON 5, JOHNSON CITY 4 IN ELIZABETHTON

The Twins scored two in the fifth to tie it 4-4 and Luis Martinez singled in the go-ahead run in the sixth.  The Cardinals had plenty of chances to tie it, getting two on in the seventh, putting a man on third in the eighth, and loading the bases in the ninth.  Jose Martinez pitched six innings, giving up four runs (two earned) on eleven hits and no walks with four strikeouts.  Alex Kirilloff was 3-for-4 to raise his average to .383.  Shane Carrier was also 3-for-4.  Ariel Montesino was 1-for-4 and is batting .371.  Lewin Diaz was 0-for-4 and is batting .321.  Robert Molina went 2-for-4 to get his average into triple digits and .119.
