Where They Stand: Through Games of August 4

Our look at the minor league pennant races as they affect Twins affiliates with about a month left in the season.

Rochester is still in it, but they need to get going.  The Red Wings are 64-49, which is good, but they're 5.5 games behind Scranton/Wilkes-Barre in the International League North.  They are second in the wild card race, 4.5 games behind Lehigh Valley.

Chattanooga is closer than they appear.  They're 20-20 in the second half, third in the Southern League North, 4.5 games behind Jackson.  Jackson won the first half, however, so the real race is for second place.  The Lookouts are just a game behind Montgomery in that race.

Fort Myers is 21-19, tied for third in the Florida State League South, but only two games behind Jupiter.  Jumping three teams is hard, but they still have a real shot.

Cedar Rapids would make the playoffs if the season ended today.  The Kernels are 24-15, good for second in the Midwest League Western, a game behind Clinton.  The top two teams in half qualify for the playoffs, and because Clinton already qualified in the first half the Kernels actually have the top spot for the second half.  They are 3.5 games ahead of Burlington, Quad Cities, and Wisconsin.

Elizabethton is 20-20, but is only 2.5 games behind Greeneville in third place in the Appalachian League West.  They're only two games out of a playoff spot behind second place Johnson City.

The GCL Twins are almost there, but not quite.  At 19-16, they trail the GCL Red Sox by a half-game for first place in the Gulf Coast League South.

The DSL Twins are the only Twins affiliate without a real shot.  They are 25-26, fifth in the Dominican Summer League South, eight games behind the DSL Mariners1.
