    7. Oh, when the Neptunes were young, fresh, and new; and Kelis was their greatest muse. I really got into the early Neptunes stuff (1999-2003). This album was the door-opener to me. Kelis has turned out to be a great shapeshifter after leaving them. Yet despite the kaleidoscope of palettes behind her, her vox still sound like Kelis in top of and front of it all. Weary and cynical, with hope behind it all.
This song shows some of the early Neptune's audacity, with a musicbox/glockenspiel plinking over a ballad about a lost or doomed love, while Pharrell whispers "Wake up, bitch" in the background.
    9. Yeah, that's how it's written. The lyric sheet just has "Good Gods". Not real clear whether monotheism, polytheism, or hypertext transfer protocol is going on here. I'm sure Perry Farrell wanted it that way.
        f. RTHAs are the hardest-working voiceover talent in nature. If you've ever watched TV or movies, this is the sound you'd think was made by a Bald Eagle. I've even seen it in nature documentaries (in transitions, not when highlighting eagles though).

      1. I put them on the iPod for the kids and they weren't really all that interested.
        But I haven't removed them.

  2. Shit, I actually had something for today (not that I remembered I had something until just now).

My friend's (the drummer) band got some good press lately. I really like their sound. It's so much different from his other (now defunct) band.*

*Guess that part of Mags Week was at WGOM that was. They were a (not very good) punk band.**

**Looks like it was over at my old blog, not here

  3. Do you get the sense that if YOU were dating Michelle Obama you could use that nighttime play list to "set the mood?"

Still have a Wilco ticket for next week.

Lydia Loveless short review: it sounds gorgeous. The production is great. Not as rockin' as previous releases but much more mature. Definitely a few songs I'd like to see her play live.
