    1. Thankfully there are several excellent New World gins available. Still, Hendrick's and Plymouth are favorites of mine, and I've become more interested in genever and Old Tom formulations. Hopefully there's a solution similar to that for grape phylloxera.

  1. WBC Update:

    Pool C:
    COL 2 - 3 USA (10 innings)
Adam Jones walkoff single with 2 outs.

Today: COL-CAN (both game 1 losers), USA-DR (both game 1 winners)

    Pool D:
    VEN 0 - 11 PR
    King Felix 2.2 IP, 2 R

    Today: VEN-ITA, PR-MEX
If ITA and PR win, they both advance and the pool is well-ordered.

    Pool E (Round 2):
Today: CUB-ISR First game of round 2.

    1. He does seem to be somewhat of an expert on the mom/nanny conversation but I don't buy that a mom would be more desperate in this situation than a nanny. The nanny knows she can be fired. I don't see her being any less desperate.

    2. This video is the perfect encapsulation of what it is to parent. That breakdown is flawless.

Both the dad trying to work and the mom trying to attend to the children. I love it so much.

      1. At this stage in life, a more apt scenario is attending a conference call and having to mute due to the grand-dog walking in and barking at a squirrel in one of the trees out back.

  2. So we had that discussion about the WBC the other day. Not sure if anyone mentioned it, but I just found it streaming on ESPN. It's in Spanish, but I don't think most here care as much about the commentating as the average Joe.

    1. I guess I'm not sure, but they're song lyrics from 311, which I always do on 3/11 if I remember.

First time I've had to explain it before someone noticed it, Phil. Tsk, tsk.

      1. I never noticed before or if I did, I never understood.
Although I did once see 311 in concert. They and the Pharcyde opened up for Cypress Hill. I was there for the Pharcyde, friend was there for 311. I got up close during Cypress Hill and tried to antagonize B-Real but I don't think he noticed me. It was Cypress Hill, but I don't think Muggs was their tour DJ and it definitely wasn't Sen-Dog as the color rapper*, but it was someone who looked like him but didn't sound enough like him. Reading up now, I think it was Mellow Man Ace, Sen's older brother.

*Not sure if this is real, the equivalent of the color commentator in an announcing booth. Someone to bring variety and spell the other rapper(s), but definitely second-billed. Much more easily replaced while still keeping the group's name. Sen-Dog, Flava Flav, Vin Rock (Naughty By Nature). I'm sure there are hundreds of other examples.

        1. Snoop Dogg was almost a glorified color rapper on "The Chronic". I can't even remember all of the other rappers on it, so maybe some of them would fit.
I never listened to NWA or 2 Live Crew to know if one of their rappers was less essential (MC Ren?)

        2. I never ask for explanations on stuff like that. I just assume it's a pop culture reference I don't know and wouldn't understand even if someone explained it to me.

        3. I would go with sidekick to be, well, less ... yeah. Also, i'd argue that while chuck d is certainly the main attraction there really isn't a suitable replacement for flavor flav to still call it public enemy.

*sidekick also known as hype man (new to me term. Thanks Wikipedia. )

          1. "Hype Man": I knew that was how Flava Flav was credited, but I figured that was a particularly Flava Flav role.
Sen-Dog is not a Hype Man.

  3. From the National Weather Service in San Diego:

The first 5 months of the water year (Oc-Feb) were the wettest in the last 100 years for CA if you look at average precipitation statewide.

Hate to see what it would look like if we weren't in a drought.
