You know what's cooler than zero wins? Five wins. -- Kirby Puckett (unconfirmed).
Twins are 5-1 and everyone is relieved we may not have to go through the crap-fest that was the 2016 season. Of course the rain-on-the-paraders like to point out "it's only 3.7 percent of the season, that's like being in the third quarter of the first NFL game." Huh? Who cares? enjoy the fact we have some fun baseball being played. And stop talking about the NFL!
Hector Santiago and his cool 1.80 ERA takes on Matt Boyd and his not-so-cool 19.29 ERA. The Tigers are probably a .500 team this year but they did take down the Beantowners 3 out of 4 games of the weekend. Twins haven't done well in Detroit lately, so by late Thursday afternoon we should have some more answers about what kind of team we will have this year (or not, 9 games is like 6.5 minutes left to play in the first... oh for Christ sake)
Go Twins.
that's one helluva hot take right there.
It was more of a bump to get it on the [side]board.
I figured out what is bothering the hell out of me about Bert. He has completely abandoned the "th", replacing them with "d"s.
Lets get a run or 8 before I have to go back to work.
Oh man, all these Detroit games are noon starts. I'm going to miss a lot of baseball this week.
I'm going to hear more of it, as I have church services almost every night this week.
It's aces for me today, but I'll miss tomorrow's and tune in late on Thursday.
It sounds like this pitcher has a NO HITTER going on. Make sure you don't tell anyone it's a NO HITTER, because we sure wouldn't want to jinx it, what with it being a NO HITTER and all.
Tigers' crew on Buxton: "You can tell what the problem is. He's not seeing the ball."
Sees it fine off the bat. Unfortunately, only the bats of opponents.
Buxton .... [raspberry sound].
At least it wasn't swinging that time... If it was I might have gone with [wet fart sound]
Bert never expands on why he doesn't like the unbalanced schedule - he only says he doesn't like it. There are plenty of reasons to dislike it, but if he's made his true opinion known, I guess I've missed it.
Of course, this is just kind of his M.O. He doesn't like things.
Well sure, but his lawn looks great.
You must be particularly enjoying this pitch count rant, then.
That's why ubelmann's suggestion of rotating analysts makes sense. Whether we agree with Bert on these things or not, we've heard him say them a hundred times or more.
I decided to turn on music before that point, luckily.
Ugh, I spookied that. That's no fun.
As did I, by way of adding him to a fantasy team and then sitting him on the bench.
A hit!!!!!!
Positively Hicks-ian.
I have no idea what's going on with Buxton. He can't possibly be that bad of a batter--he'd never have gotten to the majors in the first place if he was. I don't know if it's mental or physical or what it is, but there's no way he can be this bad.
Especially after his finish last year. He just looks completely lost out there, though.
Except that his defense is still amazing, I'd say it's all mental.
Oh yeah, I meant specifically at the plate, which is why I'm not digging for my pitchfork just yet.
Right. My point was that it seems odd to say it's mental if he's not having mental issues in other parts of the game. But maybe it really isn't. Maybe he has that much confidence in his D, and lacks the confidence at the plate.
Let's just hope that he runs into one pretty soon and that breaks the dam.
Nothing to do but keep sending him up there.
To be the best of the best means you make mistakes and then you go on.
I'm not terribly worried about Buxton right now. Mid season funk at the beginning of the season makes everything look a little worse.
That's true, and I'm not suggesting they send him to Rochester. But 17 strikeouts in 29 at-bats is going to be noticed whenever it happens.
Being in the Omerha Mothership, I missed this one (and the next, too, I guess), but:
- Twins have still won every game that Mauer has started
- Twins have lost every game that Tonkin appears in
We'll just have to settle for 160-2!
