Minor Details: Games of August 2

A Rochester comeback goes for nothing.  Fernando Romero pitches well for Chattanooga.  Jordan Gore is promoted to Class A.  Alex Robles hits a big homer and Kevin Marnon makes his professional debut for the GCL Twins.  The DSL Rockies let the Twins back into the game, then take it away again.

LEHIGH VALLEY 4, ROCHESTER 3 IN ROCHESTER

The Red Wings trailed 3-0 after three, but a sacrifice fly got them on the board in the fourth and a two-run homer by Daniel Palka tied it 3-3 in the fifth.  In the sixth, however, Brock Stassi's RBI single gave the IronPigs a 4-3 lead and they held it the rest of the way.  Rochester had men on first and second with one out in the ninth, but a pair of strikeouts ended the game.  Ex-Twin Pedro Florimon was 0-for-4 and is batting .272.

Tim Melville struck out six in five innings but gave up three runs on six hits and a walk.  Jake Reed retired all six men he faced, four by strikeout, to drop his ERA to 1.59 with a WHIP of 0.88.  Niko Goodrum was 3-for-5.  Palka was 2-for-5 with a home run, his ninth.

CHATTANOOGA 5, MONTGOMERY 2 IN MONTGOMERY

Travis Harrison hit a two-run homer in the second to give the Lookouts a 3-0 lead.  The Biscuits got one back in the second, but in the fifth four walks and a hit batsman produced two Chattanooga runs to make it 5-1.  Montgomery scored once in the eighth and had the tying run up to bat with two out, but a fly to right ended the threat.

Fernando Romero pitched five innings, giving up one run on six hits and no walks with three strikeouts.  His ERA is 2.60 and he has 115 strikeouts in 110.2 innings.  He threw just 72 pitches.  Dereck Rodriguez struck out three in two shutout innings.  Gabriel Moya pitched a scoreless inning to lower his ERA to 0.77 with a WHIP of 0.79 and 72 strikeouts in 47 innings.  Harrison was 2-for-4 with a home run, his third.  Levi Michael was 2-for-4 with a walk.  Over his last eight games, he is 16-for-39 (.410).  Alex Perez was 0-for-2 with two walks and is batting .307.

FORT MYERS MIRACLE

KANE COUNTY 9, CEDAR RAPIDS 1 IN CEDAR RAPIDS

Christian Cavaness tripled and scored in the first, but the Cougars scored five in the second to take control of the game early.  Cole Thompson had a two-run double in the inning.  It stayed 5-1 until the eighth, when Luis Silverio hit a two-run triple and later scored to put the game out of reach.

Evan Sanders pitched well other than in the second inning, but his line is five innings, five runs, six hits, four walks, and three strikeouts.  Cavaness was 2-for-4 with a triple.  Jimmy Kerrigan was 2-for-4 and is batting .333.  Lewin Diaz was 2-for-4.  Jordan Gore made his Class A debut and was 1-for-3.

ELIZABETHTON TWINS

No game scheduled.

GCL TWINS 9, GCL RAYS 4 AT RAYS

It was already 4-4 after just three innings.  The Twins took control of the game with a five-run fourth.  Alex Robles hit a three-run homer in the inning, which also featured three singles and three walks.  The Rays only got one man as far as second base after that.

Michael Kohn, on a rehab assignment, started and pitched one inning, giving up one run on one hit and no walks with one strikeout.  Blayne Enlow pitched 4.1 innings of relief, giving up one run on four hits and no walks with four strikeouts.  Kevin Marnon pitched two shutout innings in his professional debut.

DSL ROCKIES 8, DSL TWINS 5 AT TWINS

The Rockies scored two in the fourth to take a 3-1 lead.  It was 5-1 after six, but the Twins got two in the seventh on a pair of wild pitches and tied it in the eighth on a pair of errors.  In the ninth, however, Walking Cabrera hit a bases-loaded triple to put the Rockies ahead 8-5.  The Twins got the tying run up to bat in the bottom of the ninth, but a strikeout ended the game.

Fredderi Soto pitched three innings, giving up three runs (two earned) on five hits and three walks with one strikeout.  His ERA is 1.36.  Felix Reyes was 2-for-2 with a walk.  Estamy Urena was 0-for-4 with a walk and is batting .356.  Yeltsin Encarnacion was 0-for-2 with three walks and is batting .340.  Ruben Santana was 1-for-5 and is batting .339.  Juan Martinez was 0-for-4 and is batting .310.
