Minor Details: Games of August 5 (Now Fully Baked!)

A poor game for David Hurlbut.  Kohl Stewart pitched well, but the bullpen melted down.  Brent Rooker hits his first grand slam.  Jordan Gore has kept hitting since being promoted to Cedar Rapids.  Akil Baddoo is hitting well, too.  Edgar Herrera makes his GCL debut.  Steven Cruz throws four hitless innings.

SYRACUSE 9, ROCHESTER 4 IN SYRACUSE

Mitch Garver homered in a two-run first, but the Chiefs came back with five in the bottom of the first and led the rest of the way.  Syracuse started the inning with three consecutive doubles and later had three singles to score the runs.  Garver singled in a run in the third to make it 5-3, but that was as close as the Red Wings would come.

David Hurlbut pitched just three innings, allowing seven runs (six earned) on nine hits and no walks with four strikeouts.  Rochester pitchers struck out twelve batters, but apparently when Syracuse batters hit the ball they hit it hard.  Garver was 3-for-5 with a home run, his sixteenth.  Kennys Vargas was 2-for-4 with two doubles.  Niko Goodrum was 2-for-4.  Zack Granite was 0-for-5 and is batting .353.

JACKSON 14, CHATTANOOGA 3 IN CHATTANOOGA

The Lookouts scored two in the fourth to take a 2-0 lead.  The Generals scored one in the fifth, but the lead held until the seventh, when two walks and four singles produced four runs and gave Jackson a 5-2 advantage.  Jackson then scored seven in the eighth, capped by a grand slam by Jamie Westbrook, to put the game out of reach.

Kohl Stewart pitched six innings, giving up one run on five hits and three walks with five strikeouts.  Chattanooga had only five hits in the game.  Carlos Paulino was 1-for-3 and is batting .357.  Jonathan Rodriguez was 0-for-4 and is batting .313.

Mitchell Kranson had a two-run single in a four-run third that put the Miracle ahead 4-1.  In the fifth, Brent Rooker hit a grand slam in a five-run inning that gave Fort Myers a 9-1 lead.  The Hammerheads scored three in the ninth to make the final score look better.

WISCONSIN 6, CEDAR RAPIDS 2 IN WISCONSIN

Jordan Gore hit a two-run homer in the fifth to give the Kernels a 2-1 lead.  It didn't last long, as Keston Hiura's RBI single in the bottom of the fifth tied it 2-2.  It remained tied until the seventh, when Hiura delivered another RBI single followed by Ronnie Gideon's two-run double to give the Timber Rattlers a 5-2 lead.  The last nine Cedar Rapids batters were retired.

Anthony Marzi struck out six in five innings, giving up two runs (one earned) on six hits and a walk.  His ERA is 2.21.  The Kernels had just five hits.  Gore was 1-for-3 with a home run and is batting .357.

BURLINGTON 4, ELIZABETHTON 3 IN ELIZABETHTON

Michael Gigliotti's two-run double in the seventh to give the Royals a 3-2 lead.  Back-to-back doubles by Carson Crites and Akil Baddoo tied it 3-3 in the bottom of the seventh.  In the ninth, however, Benji Cash hit a home run to put Burlington in the lead to stay.

Bailey Ober struck out six in four innings, giving up one run on two hits and a walk.  His ERA is 0.79 with a WHIP of 0.62 and 12 strikeouts in 11.1 innings.  Crites was 3-for-4 with a double and is batting .316.  Akil Baddoo was 3-for-5 and is batting .340.  Andrew Bechtold was 0-for-3 with two walks and is batting .333.  Jose Miranda was 0-for-4 and is batting .304.  Gorge Munoz made his Elizabethton debut and was 0-for-4.

GCL TWINS 12, GCL RED SOX 4 AT TWINS

The Twins scored five in the first and led all the way.  Alex Robles and Edgar Herrera each had a two-run single in the inning.  It was 7-0 before the Red Sox got on the board with one in the fourth, and when they did the Twins answered with three in the bottom of the fourth to keep control of the game.

Michael Kohn started and pitched a perfect inning with two strikeouts.  Derek Molina pitched three shutout innings to keep his ERA at zero with a WHIP of 0.86.  Jean Carlos Arias was 3-for-3 with a home run (his third), a double, and a walk and is batting .330.  He has a seven game batting streak and is 12-for-28 (.429) in that streak.  Robles was 2-for-2 with a walk and is batting .342.  Herrera made his GCL debut and is 1-for-2.  Kerby Camacho was 1-for-3 with a walk and three RBIs and is batting .323.  Emmanuel Morel was 1-for-4 with a walk and is batting .313.  Benjamin Rodriguez was 0-for-2 with two walks and is batting .310.

DSL TWINS 6, DSL CARDINALS 1 AT TWINS (7 INNINGS--RAIN)
