Off-Season’s Greetings: Games of October 17

Twins pitchers combined for 4.2 scoreless innings.

ARIZONA FALL LEAGUE

Twins:  Sean Miller was 0-for-1 with a walk.  Tyler Jay pitched a scoreless inning, giving up two hits with one strikeout.  Ryan Eades pitched a scoreless inning, giving up one hit with one strikeout.

SURPRISE 10, PEORIA 3 IN PEORIA

Peoria scored two in the first, but Surprise took the lead with four in the third and put the game away with four more in the seventh.  Andrew Knizner (St. Louis) was 4-for-5 with a double.  Brandon Lowe (Tampa Bay) hit a home run.

SCOTTSDALE 10, GLENDALE 1 IN GLENDALE

It was 1-1 through eight, but a nine-run ninth turned it into a rout.  Tomas Nido (Mets) was 2-for-4 with two doubles and a walk.  Albert Abreu (Yankees) struck out eight in five shutout innings, giving up two hits and two walks.

MESA 8, SALT RIVER 5 IN SALT RIVER

Mesa led 8-0 before Salt River scored four in the fifth to make a game of it.  They added one more in the eighth, but that was it.  Ian Rice (Cubs) was 3-for-4 with two doubles.  David Bote (Cubs) was 2-for-5 with a home run, his fourth.  Kyle McGowin (Washington) struck out five in four shutout innings, giving up four hits and no walks.

VENEZUELAN LEAGUE

Twins:  Leonardo Reginatto (Margarita) was 1-for-4.  Anderson Munoz (Zulia) pitched a perfect inning with one strikeout.  Edwar Colina (Magallanes) faced one man and got him to hit into a double play.

MARGARITA 7, ZULIA 1 IN ZULIA

Margarita scored four in the first and was in control all the way.  Cade Gotta was 2-for-4 with two doubles.  Omar Bencomo struck out five in five innings, giving up one run on four hits and a walk.

ARAGUA 4, LARA 3 IN ARAGUA

Trailing 4-1, Lara scored two in the ninth and got the tying run on base before going away.  Alberto Callaspo was 2-for-3 with a double and a walk.  Guillermo Moscoso struck out six in 4.2 innings, giving up one run on six hits and a walk.  Deiner Lopez was 3-for-4 with a double for Lara and Jesus Montero was 2-for-4 with a home run for Lara.

MAGALLANES 5, LA GUAIRA 1 IN LA GUAIRA

Magallanes scored four in the first and was in control all the way.  Jose Peraza was 2-for-4 with a triple and Ronny Cedeno was 2-for-4 with a double.  Frankie De La Cruz pitched four innings, giving up one run on six hits and two walks with two strikeouts.

MEXICAN LEAGUE

Twins:  None.

LOS MOCHIS 11, JALISCO 2 IN LOS MOCHIS

Los Mochis scored five in the second and was never threatened.  Saul Soto was 3-for-4 with two doubles.  Isaac Rodriguez Salazar was 3-for-5.  Mitch Walding and Sebastian Valle were each 2-for-4 with a home run, Walding's second and Valle's third.  Akeem Bostick struck out seven in four shutout innings, giving up one hit and two walks.

NAVOJOA 8, OBREGON 3 IN OBREGON

Navojoa built a 5-0 lead through four and never led by less than three.  Jovan Rosa was 2-for-5 with a home run.  Cedric Hunter was 3-for-5 with a double for Obregon.

MEXICALI 8, CULIACAN 7 IN CULIACAN (10 INNINGS)

Ramon Rios singled in a run in the eighth to tie it and singled in another in the tenth to win it.  C. J. Retherford hit a home run.  D'Arby Myers was 3-for-6 for Culiacan.

HERMOSILLO 3, MAZATLAN 1 IN HERMOSILLO

Efren Navarro hit a two-run homer in the third and Hermosillo never trailed.  Cesar Vargas struck out six in four shutout innings, giving up three hits and no walks.

DOMINICAN LEAGUE

Twins:  Randy Rosario (Gigantes) pitched a scoreless inning, giving up two hits and striking out one.

GIGANTES 7, ESCOGIDO 0 AT GIGANTES

The Gigantes scored one in the first and two in the second and controlled the game from there.  Cameron Perkins was 2-for-3 with a double and a walk.  Paul Clemens struck out four in four shutout innings, giving up three hits and a walk.

ORIENTE 5, ESTE 0 IN ORIENTE

Oriente scored one in the first, one in the second, and two in the third.  Gustavo Nunez was 2-for-3.  Gabriel Guerrero hit a home run.  Nestor Cortes struck out seven in six shutout innings, giving up two hits and no walks.
