Off-Season’s Greetings: Games of November 4

Not much Twins action.  The Twins had only one player in the Fall Star Game.

ARIZONA FALL LEAGUE

Twins:  Tyler Jay pitched two-thirds of an inning, giving up one hit while striking out one.

EAST 4, WEST 2 IN SALT RIVER

The East scored three runs in the eighth to overcome a 2-1 deficit.  Luis Urias (San Diego) hit a home run for the West.  Tanner Scott (Baltimore) struck out four in two shutout innings for the East.

VENEZUELAN LEAGUE

Twins:  None.

CARACAS 14, ZULIA 3 IN CARACAS

Caracas opened the scoring with two in the third and built a 7-0 lead through six.  Albert Palma was 4-for-5 with a double and scored three times.  Felix Perez was 3-for-5 with a triple and two doubles, driving in three.  Jesus Guzman was 2-for-3 and scored three times.  Dylan Unsworth pitched six shutout innings, giving up three hits and a walk with no strikeouts.  Zach Houchins was 2-for-4 with a home run, his fourth, for Zulia.

MAGALLANES 8, LA GUAIRA 5 IN MAGALLANES

Magallanes scored five in the second and led all the way.  Jose Tabata was 3-for-4 with a walk.  Jerome Williams (remember him?) pitched five shutout innings, giving up two hits and no walks with three strikeouts.  Jose Martinez was 2-for-4 with three RBIs for La Guaira.

LARA AT ARAGUA

Rained out.

MEXICAN LEAGUE

Twins:  Andy Wilkins (Culiacan) was 2-for-4 with a double.

LOS MOCHIS 4, MAZATLAN 2 IN LOS MOCHIS (GAME 1--7 INNINGS)

Noel Cuevas hit a solo homer and Mitch Walding hit a two-run homer, both in the fourth inning, to take a 3-2 lead.  Walding was 2-for-3 with a double in addition to his third home run.  Cuevas' homer was his second.  Brian Hernandez was 2-for-3 with a home run, his third, for Mazatlan.

LOS MOCHIS 5, MAZATLAN 4 IN LOS MOCHIS (GAME 2--7 INNINGS)

Saul Soto's two-run double in a three-run fifth gave Los Mochis a 5-4 lead.  Noel Cuevas was 2-for-3 with a double.  Brian Hernandez was 3-for-4 for Mazatlan.

NAVOJOA 5, JALISCO 4 IN JALISCO

Navojoa led 5-1 after four and held on for the win.  Jalisco had the potential winning run on base when the game ended.  Tyler Kane pitched five innings, giving up two runs on three hits and four walks with no strikeouts.  Japhet Amador was 2-for-4 with a double and a home run for Jalisco.  Jarred Saltalamacchia also homered for Jalisco.

MEXICALI 4, HERMOSILLO 3 IN HERMOSILLO

Ramon Rios' RBI double in the ninth brought home the winning run.  Edgar Osuna struck out three in three innings, giving up one run on four hits and a walk.  For Hermosillo, Domonic Brown was 3-for-3 with two home runs (his third and fourth), a double, and a walk, scoring three times.  Fernando Perez was 3-for-5 with a double.  Juan Pablo Oramas struck out six in six innings, giving up one run on four hits and two walks.

OBREGON 5, CULIACAN 3 IN OBREGON

Obregon scored all five of their runs in the fifth, overcoming a 3-0 deficit.  Felix Pie (remember him?) was 3-for-5 with a double.

DOMINICAN LEAGUE

LICEY 8, ESCOGIDO 7 IN LICEY

Escogido led 6-0, but Licey scored three in the third and three in the sixth to tie it.  Escogido went up 7-6 in the top of the eighth, but Licey got two in the bottom of the eighth to win, with a sacrifice fly bringing home the go-ahead run.  Licey had only six hits but drew six walks and benefited from three errors.  Ronny Paulino was 3-for-4 with a home run for Escogido.

TOROS 5, GIGANTES 0 AT GIGANTES

Steven Moya hit a two-run homer in a three-run fourth and the Toros added two more in the ninth.  Moya's homer was his second.  Marcus Walden pitched five shutout innings, giving up two hits and two walks while striking out one.  The Gigantes had just three hits.

ESTRELLAS 4, AGUILAS 2 AT ESTRELLAS

The Estrellas scored single runs in the first, fourth, fifth, and seventh, building a 4-0 lead before the Aguilas got on the board with two in the eighth.  Gabriel Guerrero was 2-for-4 with a home run, his second.  Hamlet Marte was 2-for-3 with a home run and a walk.  Nestor Cortes pitched six shutout innings, giving up no hits and one walk with three strikeouts.
