Minor Details: Games of April 17

Nick Buss has a good day in a losing effort.  The Lookouts hit three homers, including a walkoff by Zander Weil.  The Miracle falls behind early and can't catch up.

CHARLOTTE 5, ROCHESTER 3 IN CHARLOTTE

The Red Wings led 3-0 after two, but the Knights scored four in the fourth to go into the lead to stay.  Charlotte did not get one big hit, but had three singles, a walk, and three more singles in the inning.

Nick Buss was 3-for-3 with a double and is batting .333.  Dietrich Enns had pitched well for three innings, but his line is 3.1 innings, four runs, seven hits, four walks, and four strikeouts.  D. J. Baxendale struck out four in 2.2 scoreless innings of relief.  Baxendale has thrown eight shutout innings over three appearances.

CHATTANOOGA 3, JACKSONVILLE 2 IN CHATTANOOGA

Brian Schales tripled and scored in the top of the ninth to tie the score 2-2, but Zander Weil delivered a walkoff homer in the bottom of the ninth to win it for the Lookouts.

LaMonte Wade was 2-for-4.  Nick Gordon and T. J. White each homered, White's third of the season.  Gordon was 1-for-4 and is batting .350.  Weil was 1-for-4 and is batting .400.  Zack Littell struck out eight in 5.2 innings, giving up one run on three hits and a walk.  Anthony McIver pitched 1.1 scoreless innings despite giving up two hits and two walks, striking out one.

DUNEDIN 5, FORT MYERS 2 IN FORT MYERS

The Blue Jays scored four in the first inning and were in control all the way.  Nash Knight had a two-run double in the inning.

Jaylin Davis was 2-for-4 with two doubles.  Joe Cronin was 2-for-3 with a double and is batting .400.  Jimmy Kerrigan was 0-for-3 with a walk and is batting .359.  Taylor Grzelakowski was 1-for-3 with a walk and is batting .308.  Sean Poppen pitched well after the first inning, but his line was four innings, four runs, five hits, two walks, and five strikeouts.  Andrew Vasquez struck out two in two shutout innings, giving up a walk.  Vasquez has pitched 7.1 scoreless innings over four appearances, giving up two hits and three walks and striking out six.

    1. I posted this in the CoC before I saw it here. So cool.

      The broadcast clip above didn’t capture the early part of the trick—after Curtis mimed a throw to reliever D.J. Baxendale, he played along and roamed near the mound as Curtis flashed the ball to the third base umpire so he knew to make the call.
