I understand the Clevelands are in first place in the worst division of all time, but how the crap is Michael Brantley an All star this season?
The minor leagues used to completely shut down on the day of the all-star game. It's still a light schedule, but the Red Wings have a morning game today and Fort Myers plays this evening.
Seriously though, what is it about Derrick f'in Rose that people will stan for him?
Trueblood with a free-for-all BP article on Puerto Rican players, with nods to a couple of Twins, and a bit of a something-bigger-than-baseball narrative.
I'll be in the Cities from July 30 - August 3. I might try to fit in a game on the 30th or 31st. I'll have time for a lunch during the week if anyone's available.
My wife somehow landed tickets to the Monday night game (30th) - be fun to get together at the park. Otherwise (or in addition), July 31 and Aug 2-3 work for lunch.
Monday's game is interesting because that's a Johan bobblehead day.
I'll be at the game the 31st. I'm currently free for lunch that whole week if you're coming to St. Paul.
Piggybacking on Sean's post, Chris Jaffe is passing through town at lunchtime on August 4, and we're going to meet for lunch and chat baseball and history. If anyone else wants to join us, let me know. Time, location TBD because he's driving from Fargo that morning.
Bjelly's not going to be a Sixer after all.
Free agent forward Nemanja Bjelica -- who had agreed to a one-year deal with the 76ers -- informed the team on Monday that he will stay in Europe this season, league sources tell ESPN. He never signed his contract with Philadelphia.
Bummer. I was looking forward to seeing what he could do if used properly.
Me, too.
I saw a couple tweets this morning on my walk to the office (from Brandon McCarthy and Parker Hageman) about the way a lot of baseball commentators/announcers spend so much time talking about how the product used to be better. This was in response to Pedro Martinez doing the opposite of that and praising the current players.
Trying to think if other sports have the problem of the people covering the game crapping on it all the time. And I can't think of any that do it to the level of baseball, which does it in different ways; the way PEDs are talked about are such a contrast to the NFL, fetishizing bunts and sacrifices, complaining about strikeouts, etc.
They criticized because they care. Certainly not like the NFL, where players are coddled compared to the good old days...
National NBA broadcasts are pretty bad. It might be harder for you to think about because the Wolves at least have Jim Peterson who does not do that. (though he can put Thibs's water down any day now.)
I guess it makes some sense, since baseball has so pushed to root itself in "tradition".
I read that Peterson was told by the Wolves to be more positive regarding Thibs.
Maybe with all the inner turmoil in the Wolves FO, he'll be allowed to be critical this year.
NBA has a problem with get off my lawn former players on TV. The game has changed so much in the past 30 years -- for the better, I contend -- and old players don't like it. Maybe they are jealous because the game was more physical and more gratuitously physical. And players now make about 10-15 times what they made.
The Twins also have this problem.
I have a ticket for the Courtney Barnett/Julien Baker show this Saturday at Surly. I'm just really not feeling up to the travel, so if someone wants my ticket for the low, hit me up.
I might be interested. Let me check on a few things...
I've already reached out to one particular citizen but want to throw this out there for the field. Younger Daughter graduated from St. Thomas with a BA in history this spring. She's been to Europe three times now and would really like to work there, possibly as a teacher, but we really have no idea of how to go about finding job opportunities in Europe. If anyone else has some experience in this area we would sure appreciate some insights. Thanks!
My brother taught for a while at Bitburg Germany at the military base there -- might look at those kind of opportunities?
Warning: Aaron Judge hit a home run in the all star game so the probability of Joe buck becoming insufferable has somehow increased. (I've got the volume way down, so i can't actually hear him.)
Mike Trout is good.
Jose in the game.
Four-pitch walk to Arenado but that was his only baserunner. A fine appearance for the token Twin.
Not a WASTE!
Man, he was snapping 'em off.
His fastball was lively tonight.
I love the All Star ballcap Berrios is wearing.
Somethin' dirty about FOX advertising Thursday Night Football during the MLB All-Star game.
Tied?! Like a good movie, I guess I'm going to bookend this post: *selig shrug*
because you knew it was coming: *selig shrug*

Definitive proof that cheaptoy is not Antoine Griezmann.
Now I'm even more sad Croatia didn't win.
