Minor Details: Games of July 16

Andy Wilkins hits a grand slam to lead the Red Wings.  Five-run innings are prominent as the Lookouts sweep.  Clark Beeker struggles but is bailed out in a Miracle win.  Jose Miranda stays hot for the Kernels.  Ryan Jeffers keeps hitting for the E-Twins.  Janigson Villalobos is hitting well for the GCL Twins.  Jose Bermudez pitches well for the DSL Twins.

ROCHESTER 13, LOUISVILLE 6 IN ROCHESTER

The Red Wings led 4-0 after four.  The Bats scored five in the fifth to take a 5-4 lead, but Rochester came back with eight in the bottom of the fifth to put the game out of reach.  Andy Wilkins hit a grand slam in the inning.

LaMonte Wade was 3-for-4 with a walk and two RBIs.  Taylor Motter was 2-for-4 with a home run (his second), a double, and a walk, scoring twice and driving in two.  Kennys Vargas was 2-for-4 with a walk.  He is batting .325 with three home runs in his last ten games.

Zack Littell struck out five in 4.1 innings but allowed five runs on five hits and four walks.  He pitched well for four innings before imploding in the fifth.  Gabriel Moya struck out four in 1.2 scoreless innings, giving up two hits.  His ERA is 1.40.  Trevor May struck out three in two shutout innings, giving up two hits.

MONTGOMERY 11, CHATTANOOGA 7 IN CHATTANOOGA (COMPLETION OF SUSPENDED GAME)

This game was brought to you by the number five.  The Biscuits scored five in the third to take a 5-2 lead.  The Lookouts came back with five in the fourth to go ahead 7-5.  Montgomery scored five more in the seventh to move into the lead to stay.  After the fourth inning, Chattanooga only once got a man past first base.

Jaylin Davis was 3-for-4 with two RBIs.  Jordan Gore was 2-for-4 with a double and is batting .318.  Tanner English was 2-for-4 with a double.  Luis Arraez was 2-for-5 with a double.  Zander Wiel was 2-for-5 and is batting .305.

Sean Poppen struck out four in two shutout innings before the game was suspended, giving up one hit and two walks.  Williams Ramirez struck out two in a scoreless inning, giving up one hit.

CHATTANOOGA 8, MONTGOMERY 1 IN CHATTANOOGA (SCHEDULED GAME--7 INNINGS)

The number five was still around, as the Lookouts scored five in the third to break a 1-1 tie.  The runs scored on just two hits--with men on first and second with two out, Chattanooga received four consecutive walks, a hit batsman, and another walk.

Jaylin Davis was 3-for-4 and is batting .325.  Zander Wiel was 1-for-3 with a walk and is batting .306.  Jordan Gore was 0-for-1 with two walks and is batting .304.

It was a bullpen game for the Lookouts.  Tyler Jay struck out two in two shutout innings, giving up one hit.  His ERA is 2.97.  Sam Clay pitched 1.1 scoreless innings, giving up a walk and striking out one.  Ryne Harper pitched 1.2 scoreless innings, giving up a walk and striking out one.  His ERA is 2.88.

FORT MYERS 7, ST. LUCIE 4 IN FORT MYERS

The Miracle scored four in the second to take a 6-1 lead.  The Mets got three in the fifth to cut it to 6-4 but could get no closer.

Mark Contreras was 3-for-4 with a home run (his sixth), scoring three times and driving in two.  Travis Blankenhorn was 2-for-3 with a double and a walk, driving in three.  Royce Lewis was 1-for-4 and is batting .417.

Clark Beeker pitched 4.2 innings, giving up four runs on seven hits and two walks and striking out three.  It was his third poor game in four starts.  Ryan Mason pitched 3.1 scoreless innings, giving up two hits and striking out two.  His ERA is 2.47.  Hector Lujan pitched a scoreless inning, giving up one hit and striking out one.

CEDAR RAPIDS 10, LAKE COUNTY 4 IN CEDAR RAPIDS

The Kernels scored two in the second, three in the third, and three in the fifth to build an 8-0 lead.

David Banuelos was 3-for-4 with a double and three RBIs.  Jose Miranda was 3-for-4 with a double and two runs.  He is batting .395 in his last ten games.  Trey Cabbage was 3-for-5 with two doubles and two RBIs.  Ben Rodriguez was 2-for-4 with two doubles and a walk, scoring three times.  Jean Carlos Arias was 2-for-4 with a double, scoring twice and driving in two.

Randy Dobnak struck out seven in seven innings, giving up three runs on five hits and two walks.

KINGSPORT 14, ELIZABETHTON 4 IN KINGSPORT

Yunior Severino homered leading off  the third to put the Twins up 3-2, but the Mets came back with six in the bottom of the third to take control of the game.  Kingsport drew five walks in the inning.

Alex Robles was 2-for-4 with a walk and is batting .349.  Ryan Jeffers was 2-for-4 with a walk and is batting .402.  Chris Williams was 2-for-5.  Severino was 1-for-4 with a walk in addition to the home run, which was his third.  He scored twice and is batting .313.  Trevor Casanova was 1-for-5 and is batting .319.  Michael Helman was 0-for-3 and is batting .455.

Pedro Garcia struck out three in 2.1 innings, but allowed six runs on five hits and four walks.

GCL ORIOLES 9, GCL TWINS 2 AT TWINS

It was 2-2 through five, but the Orioles scored two in the sixth, three in the eighth, and two in the ninth.  The Twins threatened in the seventh and eighth but did not score.

Agustin Marte was 2-for-4 with a double.  Janigson Villalobos was 1-for-3 and is batting .356.  Charles Mack was 0-for-4 and is batting .091.  Willie Joe Garry was 0-for-2 with a walk and is batting .094.

Prelander Berroa pitched five innings, giving up two runs on five hits and two walks and striking out two.

DSL TWINS AT DSL PHILLIES RED (5 1/2 INNINGS--SUSPENDED)

It was 0-0 through five and a half innings.  Jose Bermudez pitched five shutout innings, giving up six hits and no walks and striking out three.
