Minor Details: Games of August 6

A rough debut for Jorge Alcala.  A big day for Royce Lewis.  The Kernels have more errors than runs, but still win thanks to Edwar Colina.  Not much offense for the E-Twins as they get swept.  A good rehab start for Michael Pineda.  Wander Valdez and Bryant Perez lead the DSL Twins.

ROCHESTER RED WINGS

No game scheduled.

MISSISSIPPI 9, CHATTANOOGA 4  IN CHATTANOOGA

The Braves led 8-1 through five.  The Lookouts scored three in the sixth to make the score look a little better.

Zander Wiel was 0-for-4 and is batting .312.  Jaylin Davis was 1-for-3 with a double and a walk and is batting .311.

Jorge Alcala made his Chattanooga debut and it did not go well.  He pitched 2.2 innings, giving up three runs on two hits and three walks and striking out two.  Ryan Eades retired all four batters he faced, striking out two.

FORT MYERS 13, LAKELAND 0 IN LAKELAND

The Twins scored in only four innings.  They got three in the third, five in the fourth, three in the sixth, and two in the ninth.

Royce Lewis was 4-for-6 with two home runs (his second and third).  He scored three times, drove in five, and is batting .329.  Caleb Hamilton was 2-for-4 with a walk.  Taylor Grzelakowski was 2-for-5 with a home run (his seventh) and a double, scoring three times and driving in two.  Alex Kirilloff was 2-for-5 with two RBIs.  Ryan Costello was 1-for-4 and is batting .316.  Travis Blankenhorn was 1-for-4 with a home run (his eleventh) and a walk.  Jose Miranda made his high-A debut, going 0-for-4.

I assume the Twins must be trying to limit the innings for Charlie Barnes, as he again came out early for no apparent reason.  He pitched 4.1 scoreless innings, giving up six hits and a walk and striking out three.  His ERA is 2.69.  Hector Lujan struck out four in 3.2 scoreless innings, giving up one hit.  His ERA is 2.48.  Ryan Mason pitched a scoreless inning, striking out one.

CEDAR RAPIDS 3, BELOIT 2 IN CEDAR RAPIDS

The Kernels scored two in the third and one in the fifth to take a 3-1 lead.  The Snappers got one back in the eighth and had the tying run on second with one out, but their last five batters were retired.  Cedar Rapids won despite making four errors.  I suspect there aren't a lot of games where you have more errors than runs and still win the game.

Ariel Montesino was 2-for-3 with a triple and a double, scoring twice.  Michael Helman was 2-for-4 in his Class A debut.  Ryan Jeffers was 0-for-4 and is batting .327.  Michael Davis was 1-for-3 with a home run (his fourth) and is batting .317.

Edwar Colina struck out eight in eight innings, giving up two unearned runs on four hits and no walks.  His ERA is 2.66.  Kevin Marnon struck out two in a perfect inning.  His ERA is 1.90.

KINGSPORT 5, ELIZABETHTON 1 IN ELIZABETHTON (GAME 1--7 INNINGS)

Leading 2-1, the Mets scored three in the fifth to put the game out of reach.  Kingsport had only one RBI.  Three of their runs scored on wild pitches and one on a passed ball.

Alex Robles was 3-for-3 with a home run, his second.  He is batting .331.  Gilberto Celestino was 0-for-3 and is batting .393.

Kody Funderburk struck out six in four innings, giving up three runs (two earned) on six hits and no walks.

KINGSPORT 7, ELIZABETHTON 2 IN ELIZABETHTON (GAME 2--7 INNINGS)

The Mets scored two in the first and it stayed 2-0 until the seventh, when they added five more.  The Twins got both their runs in the bottom of the seventh.

Gilberto Celestino was 1-for-3 and is batting .387.  Alex Robles was 0-for-3 and is batting .325.  Trevor Casanova was 0-for-2 and is batting .320.  Trevor Larnach was 1-for-2 and is batting .300.

GCL RAYS 11, GCL TWINS 4 AT TWINS

The Rays scored eight runs in the fifth inning to take an 8-1 lead.  Diego Infante had a three-run homer in the inning.

Michael Pineda made his first rehab start as a Twin.  He struck out three in two shutout innings, giving up a hit and a walk.

DSL TWINS 5, DSL NATIONALS 1 AT NATIONALS
