Runner daughter brought over her super long ethernet cable since her new laptop doesn't have an ethernet port, so for the heck of it I'm trying it on my PC. My previous high with the wireless adapter was 235mbps -- I'm now seeing 320mbps. I think I'll leave it connected for the rest of the day.
Wired always wins.
Yea, verily.
While I prefer wired, my remote setup has been pure WiFi for over a year. However, I do have a dedicated access point within line of sight that Windows says is 400 Mbps.
I have a refrigerator and wall among other things standing guard over any line of sight folly
I have a docking station on my desk so I can drop the laptop in and use my big monitor and wired ethernet, along with wireless mouse and keyboard. I keep a couple of portable hard drives connected to the dock, one for regular C: drive backups and one for data files, mostly old work stuff.
Same, but no wired ethernet. I have a switch behind me but there's a doorway to cross and it hasn't been a problem yet. I have a spare cable attached to it when I really need that extra bandwidth but it's rare.
Just found out that our most faithful attender at our monthly nursing home singing passed away last week. She was my age. We're going to miss her singing along with us and "that's my favorite song!" -- she was always waiting in the game room for us when we arrived to set up.
Sad news. Every time we lose someone in the nursing home, even though I know it's inevitable, it leaves a hole.
Hunter Greene, the pitcher drafted second after Royce Lewis, will be undergoing Tommy John surgery. He still could make the Twins lament not drafting him, but it's looking less likely. Lewis, who is starting this year at High-A Ft. Myers, will almost certainly reach the majors ahead of Greene.
It sounds like Ronald Acuna is getting close to a $100 million long-term deal. It seems like teams are a lot more willing to lock up star young players to big contracts, especially position players. Don't know if it's a trend of teams just trying to play smarter and save some money over year-to-year contracts or if teams believe the next deal with the players association is going to mean players hit free agency sooner so they want to sign players to deals now before they have more leverage.
Braves with an absolute steal on that extension.
Owners drag feet for 2 years of FA signing periods. Then sign all the young guys to long contracts that include 2-3 post-arbitration years. 🤔
I hope these extensions are front-loaded so they don’t get hosed if there’s a work stoppage.
MLBPA recently increased the amount contributed in case of a work stoppage. I don't remember th percentages, only that it went up.
Whenever I work one of these things, I always get "Electioneering" stuck in my head all day.
A base ball rules question, to which I think I know the answer but would like someone to confirm that I'm right:
In the eighth inning of yesterday's White Sox/Cleveland game, the Indians had men on second and third with one out. Renteria brought Dylan Covey in to pitch. His first batter was to be Carlos Santana, but Renteria had Santana intentionally walked. Even though the pitcher no longer, throws the four pitches, that still counts as a batter faced for Covey, right? So if Renteria had wanted to bring someone else in to pitch to the next batter, he could have?
It wouldn't normally come up, but it might have if Cleveland had used a pinch-hitter and the White Sox had wanted to bring someone in for a platoon advantage. I just want to make sure I have that right.
I don’t know if that’s right, but it certainly seems logical. Pitchers are still charged with the IBB, right?
If the pitcher is replaced, the substitute pitcher shall pitch to the
batter then at bat, or any substitute batter, until such batter is
put out or reaches first base, or until the offensive team is put
out, unless the substitute pitcher sustains injury or illness
which, in the umpire-in-chief’s judgment, incapacitates him for
further play as a pitcher
So it looks like there's no provisions requiring the pitcher to throw a pitch. Just that someone reaches first base, or someone is out (which could happen on a pickoff).
Feeling bad for Opening Day Cards fans -- if they do actually play Thursday, it's going to be between breaks in the rain.
My wife is currently trying to disprove that using a dishwasher uses less water than hand washing by running the sink the entire time while loading the dishwasher. It is absolutely killing me that I can't say something.
Mine proves that hand washing takes more water by never turning the faucet off. It's expensive water too since it needs to through three systems before it's usable.
I have long wanted a foot-pedal operated tap in the kitchen sink, both for washing dishes (we don’t have a dishwasher) & washing hands after handling raw meat. Someday.
We got one of these when we upgraded our kitchen faucet. A bit pricey, but the two different types of sensors to turn it on hands-free are pretty sweet. I now find myself annoyed when I’m in a kitchen with a regular faucet.
Never would have thought a 404 not found would make for a good faucet...
This is more what I have in mind. Or this, if we’re getting fancy.
Yeah, that’s the one. I guess the mobile link messed up. We didn’t pay close to that much; it is “only” $400 at Lowe’s, and I’m pretty sure we got it in sale for more like $325. Still expensive, but not nearly that expensive.
(plug for the little guys)
I get my beans at a local roaster called J.Rene, my favorite being the Honduran, Costa Rican, and Guatemalan varietals.
As free mentioned, the Half-Baked Hall poll is up. It closes Friday at midnight.

Dang, that's a lot of moola for a faucet.
