I hadn't realized how amazing 1959 was for jazz. 60 years ago, some of the most influential recordings in jazz were released, including Kind of Blue, The Shape of Jazz to Come, Giant Steps, Time Out, and Mingus Ah Um. I don't have a whole lot of jazz in my library, but I have all of these.

Yeah, 1959 was pretty awesome. Some other albums from that year that are well worth anyone’s time: Abbey Lincoln’s Abbey is Blue, Milt Jackson & John Coltrane’s Bags & Trane, Chet Baker’s Chet, Dinah Washington’s What a Diff'rence a Day Makes!, Bill Evans’ Portrait in Jazz, Oliver Nelson’s Meet Oliver Nelson, Horace Silver’s Blowin’ the Blues Away and Finger Poppin’, Art Pepper’s +Eleven, and Jimmy Smith’s The Sermon!.
Oh yeah, I forgot to mention the Evans one. Got that one too.
If you love Baby Jesus, go vote for Ted Simmons. (I’m not saying Simmons was as good as Mauer, but don’t let that stop you from voting for an all-time great catcher.)
bumping this, assuming people missed it last night.
