December 17, 2019: Playoffs!?

Of course Brees has the best game of his career as I was facing him against both of my WGOM teams. I was able to hold him off against one Injured Reserve team (rpz? UncleWalt?), but not the other Injured Reserve team (Zee German I believe; don't remember why there are two of the same team with different owners).

  1. I picked up Brees as a FREE AGENT mid season! Bwahaha! It's the little things that keep me going. I also traded for Aaron Jones, offering Matthew Stafford, which I thought was fairish at the time, but Stafford hasn't played a game since. That was not intentional.

I didn't know my team had an evil doppelganger! I'll plan on a new name next year.

    1. that's fair. i missed both drafts but ended up with lamar jackson on both teams. apparently like waaaaaay late in the draft. wish these were keeper leagues...

      1. Ha. I made the draft thinking I was going to be clever this year. Yahoo gave it an "A." I have four players left on my team from the draft, one of which is my kicker. It was touch-and-go there for a while.

          1. I'm sorry, I get a little eager. Busy as life is, this is about as much as I get to do for fun and friendly competition these days.

              1. no, vs "complete lack thereof." I haven't placed second to you in CdL shenanigans for quite some time. I was on a roll there for a while.

          1. Is there a promotion/relegation system for these leagues? I didn't know I was in the B-league. Ha.

            1. We started a second one because the first one was full. That's the only distinction really. I wanted to do some form of relegation, but I was never able to coordinate it with spooky (if he even remembered to renew the league, that is 😉 ). However, I think we've lost a lot of people along the way, so I've been wondering if it's time to merge them since half of both leagues are basically inactive.

                1. There are 2 teams from the A league and 5 teams from the B league with 0 transactions during the season. Removing them though would leave us with 13.

                  1. Maybe take the 4 best teams from the B league and move them to the A league and move the 2 teams in A league with 0 transactions to the B league. That would leave A with 12 teams and B with 10 teams.

                    1. Actually, I'm in both leagues, come to think of it. Forget if anyone else is as well. If not, drop the 7 with 0 moves, contract my second team, merge the leagues, then we'd have 12. I don't think it's fair to put anyone in a league with all those no-shows.

Actually, that's 14 (don't mind my CA math).

              1. I think I remember from my time in the league years back, the B league was supposed to be less rigorous.

            2. I'm "We're all losers" in the B Squad. I don't remember what the rules were between the A and B leagues, but at least this year, B seems right for me.

    1. Sure is. You should see his basketball ad!

(It's just him and Johnny, and you realize that they're both kind of short (because of the coffee), and there's like 5 really tall guys standing between him and the hoop, and he's all like "F this! Drinking coffee: now that's a real man's sport.")

  2. Via MLBTR, the Twins have hired Mike Bell, Arizona’s farm director & VP of player development, to be the new bench coach. This is a really interesting development, I think. I’d assume he’s going to bring a quality control approach to his duties, and I’m curious to see how it all shakes out.

  3. I have two days of hearings in Two Harbors tomorrow and Thursday, so I drove up to Duluth this morning to meet with and prep my witnesses all day. Of course, I forgot my suits hanging by the front door of my house, so I got to drive all the way back to Minneapolis to drive all the way back to Duluth and my hotel again after the meetings.

I hope I'm not that forgetful ever again.

  4. Apparently Bumgarner left money on the table and made a bunch of concessions so he could play for Arizona as he didn't want to go anywhere else.

Don't think a free agent has ever said that about Minnesota if they hadn't already been here

    1. I'm willing to back off my criticisms a little. Still would have been nice to have heard the Twins made the offer that got rejected.

      1. Adjust his numbers for the American league and getting out of his home park, and I just don't think he's good enough. I'm glad they didn't get him.
