  1. Happy Minnesota Day!
We are 162 years old, but we have the spirit of a 22 year old.

    1. I can't think of Frank Costanza without being reminded that one of Papa Young's high school classmates married Ken Phelps.

    2. I saw him when I was in NYC. Sitting at a bar & grill on Broadway and he walked in to use the restroom. I was the only one that saw him in our party of 4. I just stammered, "George's dad just walked in to the restroom." My friend replied, "That guy looked like Jerry Stiller?" "No, it was Jerry Stiller."

A few minutes later he walks out and walks down the street towards our seats on the sidewalk. I couldn't decide if I should ask for a picture or not so I ended up just staring at him. He saw use gawking and just smiled and waved. That was ten years ago this summer.

  2. For freealonzo...
42 years ago today, Robert Pollard threw a no-hitter for Wright State University.

  3. Update to my engaging people on Facebook that were sharing conspiracy videos: I received direct messages from a friend of a friend "explaining" to me that Bill Gates is behind everything and gets a free pass from the media. He is putting chemicals in vaccines to sterilize people. I stopped engaging because I felt like I was going to need a TRO at the end of it.

    I blame Philo! 🙂

    1. Thankfully, I don't think I've ever had anyone be quite that unhinged in that type of exchange.

Now, in court cases? That's a different story...

    1. I literally cannot see this without the gif of Ron Paul waving his arms around playing in my head.

  4. Hey Mags, my dad also made a cheesecake for Mother's Day. But he didn't consult with me about a recipe, used a recipe that called for a different size springform pan than what he had, and didn't use a large enough pan for the water bath (so the water wasn't as high as the recipe called for). The result? Well, he says it tastes pretty good if you scrape the burned part off the top...

    1. Part of my problem was the waterbath. My 9" spring form barely fit inside my cast iron skillet. I should have refilled the water at some point.

Also, I got impatient because it was holding up the oven for making pizzas, so I turned up the heat a little which was probably not the right move.

      1. If you have one, a roasting pan is a better size for a water bath.

I had to laugh because my dad regularly turns up the heat to get things to cook faster, and it never ends well. His background is as a scientist, so you would think he'd understand the importance of accuracy...

        1. Nope, the cast iron was the only dish I could find in the house that the springform fit within.

I suppose it would have fit inside the stand-alone roaster, but I'm pretty sure that's not the recommended usage for that device.

    1. At least the name is descriptive of its appearance, unlike the red-bellied woodpecker.

  5. We've had a white crowned sparrow mostly at the base of the feeder for the last week. New bird for me.

Also, I seem to be making progress against the squirrels, the triad of Ancho pepper in the birdseed, Pam Spray on the feeder pole, and Common Grackles dive-bombing them seems to be paying off.

  6. Does anyone here play online strat-o-matic? I think I asked around 12 years ago but figured it was worth checking back.

    1. Only OOTP for me. I bailed on the last of my Diamond Mind leagues about three years ago.

        1. Never played strat, but I love OOTP. Incredibly realistic but with so many variables.

  7. I just turned on Game Five of the 2002 ALDS to watch Matthew LeCroy leg out an infield single. I love that man.
