June 28, 2020: Patton Would Be Proud

If I understand this correct, the NHL has created a system for this year that would give eight teams (including the Wild) incentive to immediately and viciously tank their opening "playoff" series. All right, I guess.

  1. No, the way it was explained to me, the seven teams that didn't make the playoffs and the first team eliminated (something like that) are in the lottery for #1. Puts a damper on tanking, if you ask me.

    1. The No. 1 pick in the 2020 NHL Draft will be determined by the Second Phase of the NHL Draft Lottery after the results of the First Phase on Friday.

The team will be one of the eight that are eliminated from the Stanley Cup Qualifiers and will be determined by a second drawing to be held before the start of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Each of the eliminated teams will have a 12.5 percent chance of winning the No. 1 pick.

I'm less sure of the Wild's involvement, but I really don't understand much of any of it. And it's not for lack of trying.

  2. Or leagues could eliminate drafts altogether and maintain competitive balance through salary caps.

Hopefully we get some new Citizens, or we'll have to hear how Stick single-handedly instigated The Dictators' signings

    1. Would love to join, but doing an in-person, socially distanced cocktail hour on our patio.
