Brent Rooker homers in a Saints loss.  Caleb Hamilton hits a big homer for the Wind Surge.  Wander Javier has a big day for the Kernels.  A solid win for the Mighty Mussels.

LOUISVILLE 6, ST. PAUL 3 IN LOUISVILLE

The Bats took a 2-1 lead in the first and led the rest of the way.  The Saints closed to 4-3 in the sixth but could get no closer.

Batting stars:  Mark Contreras was 2-for-4 with a two-run homer.  Brent Rooker was 1-for-3 with a home run (his seventh), a walk, and two runs.

Pitching star:  Ian Gibaut pitched three innings, giving up one run on two hits and no walks and striking out two.

Opposition stars:  Joey Votto was 3-for-4 with a triple, a double, and two runs.  Alejo Lopez was 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs.  Braden Shipley pitched four innings, giving up one run on four hits and no walks and striking out two.

Starter:  Bryan Sammons pitched four innings, giving up four runs on six hits and four walks and striking out two.

Good stats:  None.

Bad stats:  Daniel Descalso was 0-for-3 and is batting .059.  Keon Broxton was 0-for-4 and is batting .160.  Drew Maggi was 1-for-4 to raise his average to .182.  Sammons has an ERA of 9.00.  Gibaut lowered his ERA to 10.66.

Record:  The Saints are 15-14, in third place in the AAA East-Midwest, 5.5 games behind Omaha.

WICHITA 6, ARKANSAS 4 IN WICHITA

Caleb Hamilton hit a three-run homer in a five-run fifth.

Batting stars:  Jose Miranda was 2-for-3 with a walk.  Hamilton was 2-for-4 with two home runs and four RBIs.  Roy Morales was 2-for-4.  Jermaine Palacios was 2-for-4.  Andrew Bechtold was 1-for-4 with a home run, his second.

Pitching star:  Jordan Balazovic struck out five in 3.1 scoreless innings, giving up one hit and two walks.

Opposition stars:  David Masters was 2-for-4 with a home run and two runs.  Connor Lien was 1-for-3 with a two-run homer and a walk.

Good stats:  B. J. Boyd was 1-for-4 and is batting .417.  Palacios is batting .324.  Miranda is batting .322.  Ernie De La Trinidad was 1-for-4 and is batting .301.  Aaron Whitefield was 0-for-4 and is batting .301.  Balazovic has an ERA of zero.  Hector Lujan allowed three runs in 3.1 innings and has an ERA of 2.79.

Bad stats:  Peter Mooney was 0-for-3 and is batting .179.  Calvin Faucher gave up one run in 2.1 innings to lower his ERA to 7.24.

Record:  The Wind Surge is 18-11, in first place in the AA Central-North, one game ahead of Tulsa.

CEDAR RAPIDS 11, FORT WAYNE 5 IN FORT WAYNE

Leading 4-1, the Kernels scored three in the seventh and four in the eighth.  Alex Isola hit a three-run homer in the eighth inning.

Batting stars:  Wander Javier was 4-for-6 with a triple, a double, four runs, and two RBIs.  Isola was 2-for-3 with a home run, two walks, and four RBIs.  Trey Cabbage was 2-for-4 with a double, a walk, two runs, and two RBIs.  Max Smith was 2-for-5.

Pitching star:  Andrew Cabezas struck out five in five shutout innings, giving up three hits and a walk.

Opposition stars:  Agustin Ruiz was 2-for-3 with a home run (his seventh), two walks, and two runs.  Jonny Homza was 2-for-5.

Good stats:  Cabezas has an ERA of 2.42.

Bad stats:  Chris Williams was 0-for-3 and is batting .065.

Record:  The Kernels are 12-17, tied for fifth (last) place in the High-A Central-West, 6.5 games behind Quad Cities.

FORT MYERS 9, ST. LUCIE 4 IN FORT MYERS

The Mighty Mussels scored two in the fourth to break a 3-3 tie and scored three in the seventh to put the game out of reach.

Batting stars:  Yunior Severino was 2-for-5.  Aaron Sabato was 1-for-3 with a double, two walks, and two runs.

Pitching star:  Juan Pichardo pitched three shutout innings, giving up a walk and striking out two.

Opposition stars:  Matt O'Neill was 2-for-2 with a home run and two walks.  Liam McCall struck out three in two innings, giving up an unearned run on no hits and no walks.

Starter:  Miguel Rodriguez struck out four in four innings, giving up three runs (two earned) on three hits and three walks.

Good stats:  Kyle Schmidt was 1-for-3 and is batting .362.  Edouard Julien was 0-for-3 and is batting .315.  Pichardo has an ERA of 0.64.  Rodriguez has an ERA of 1.35.

Bad stats:  Willie Joe Garry, Jr. was 1-for-3 and is batting .167.  Sabato raised his average to .173.  Misael Urbina was 0-for-3 and is batting .177.  Matthew Swain gave up a run in two innings and lowered his ERA to 7.16.
