  1. Minor Details has been posted. The feature will not appear tomorrow, as I will leave today to visit Mom A and help celebrate her 96th birthday.

  2. The new patio space at the joint is coming together quickly. Looks like we will launch it sometime late next week. I will post some more pics on the book of face for those who follow. I remember last fall meeting with my main banker and he helped me with a business plan to see if a patio expansion would make sense financially. We wrote it assuming a 25% growth in total annual sales and it all would work. Right now, for 2021 we are up over 35% in total sales compared to our previous best year ever. I have slowed way down on marketing in all mediums due to the fact that I don't want to completely overwhelm my staff. I have tripled the size of my management team, and added lots of new faces on all other staffs. Seems like as we build our staff numbers, sales climb at the same rate. It... is... going... to ... be... one... crazy... summer!

    1. Good for you. Last year was a rough time for your industry and all I heard from you was thoughtful discourse about the situation when you were facing real risk to your livelihood. You deserve good things.

      1. Seconded. I think there's a lot of pent-up demand for dining out. Time for us to plan a road trip to Alex.

  3. What if the NBA threw a playoff tournament and nobody was a favorite? Answer: craziness ensues.

In the West, as I suspected, PHX overwhelmed the Murray-less Nuggets and the league MVP Jokic got tossed in game 4 for a ridiculous cheap shot. Denver, to their credit, played hard and kept it close, but PHX was clearly the better team and Chris Paul put on a masterful performance in the closing game. With Paul reasonably healthy, the Suns are, in my mind, poised to win their first championship after (narrowly) missing the playoffs last year. Of course, the vaccinated Paul has now tested positive for Covid and is out indefinitely.

UTA is frittering away a chance for their first championship, falling down 3-2 after leading 2-0, losing game 5 to a Kawhi-less LAC team. Leonard is out for the series (playoffs?) with a bad knee and without him, I don't see a banner hanging in LA after this season. But, heck, LAC hasn't ever even gotten out of the second round (even the Wolves have done that!) and I think they get there tonight (game 6 is in LA). PHX, of course, wants this series to go the distance so that Paul can get through his Covid protocol while missing the fewest number of games possible. With Kawhi out and Paul in, I think PHX is the clear favorite to win it all now. I would give them a slight edge even if Paul is out should Kawhi remain out. UTA could also win this series and I think that PHX would beat them with Paul.

I had PHI as an easy winner in their series with ATL, but they have to win on the road in game 6 or it's over. Embiid is playing hurt, Simmons is ghosting his own club, and Doc Rivers ain't won nothing without KG. I think ATL wins game 6 and the Trae Young show will continue all the way to the Finals. I could be wrong.

MIL played like a bunch of dumbasses for most of this series, but they pulled out game 6 at home and will go to BKN for game 7. BKN has Durant, who put on a show for the ages against the Wisco Idiots in game 6 with a 49 point triple double. Harden occupied space on the court for 45 minutes with a non-functional hamstring and MIL did not exploit that at all. They pretty much let him get away with that in game 6, too, and he scored a reasonable amount of points, but Durant was merely great and not super human. Meanwhile Khris Middleton went crazy and Giannis did not take a single three point shot on his way to 30 points on north of 60% shooting (note: Chris Paul scored 37 in game four of the PHX-DEN series without taking a single three point shot, but in terms of BBIQ, Chris Paul is miles ahead of GIannis). I think that BKN wins game 7 (they've scored 30 points per game more at home in this series than on the road). Durant is probably gassed, Harden is playing on one leg, and Kyrie isn't playing at all. I think they get it done.

Here's how I rank each team's likelihood of winning the title as of now.

    1. PHX
    2. LAC
    3. ATL
    4. BKN
    5. MIL
    6. UTA
    7. PHI

Note that the first spot hasn't changed, but I had PHI two on Monday and now I think they're toast.

    1. I don't have strong arguments with this analysis, although I think that Philly has more like a 50-50 chance of getting to game 7. Depends on Embiid's health and will, and Seth Curry's continued hot shooting. Atlanta is rising, to be sure, but they don't have an answer for Embiid when he's fresh and in the paint. I just don't know whether he is healthy enough to be a big factor in a 4th quarter of a fast-paced game.

One of the many mysteries about Philly in these playoffs has been the disappearance of Shake Milton. He was a big factor in Game 2 vs ATL, but otherwise has been invisible. This is a guy who scored 13 ppg off the bench this season as their instant offense. With Danny Green out, Milton has to perform off the bench. -7.2 BPM in the playoffs so far. That's really, really, really awful. And since they can't play Ben Simmons in crunch time, their bench guards (Milton and George Hill, mostly) have to step up.

Which takes me to the verge of a rant. It is unconscionable that a point guard in the NBA can't shoot over 50 percent from the FT line, let alone a respectable figure. He is 12 for 39 in this series. Only he and Embiid are in double-figure attempts, and he's shooting 30.8 percent. Oh. My. God.

  4. This is my favorite sandwich now: Grilled chicken breast, bacon, Swiss cheese, and barbecue sauce. I like it on lightly toasted French bread or a brioche bun.

      1. Have you tried mustard or vinegar-based BBQ sauces? They work pretty well with chicken or pork and they don't have the sweetness of a KC or Memphis style sauce. There's also something called an Alabama white sauce that's made with mayo but I've never tried it.

      2. Oh, you should def be a John Hardy’s fan. And the Trader Joe’s Carolina gold…. That shit is good on shoe leather without the sweetness of kc style.

            1. I just ordered a three-pack of sauce for my dad. $15 for the sauce, $24 for the shipping. Whaaaaa?

    1. Read this tweet instead.

  5. Ryan Crouser just crushed one of the oldest world record marks in track and field. 76'8.25", blowing away Randy Barnes' 31-year old record of 75'10.25".
