Minor Details: Games of July 13

Brent Rooker has a monster game.  Trey Cabbage hits a home run.  Seth Gray has a big game.  Jesus Feliz decides a see-saw game.

ST. PAUL 19, COLUMBUS 1 IN ST. PAUL

Already leading 7-1, the Saints scored ten in the fourth.  Brent Rooker hit a double and a home run in the inning, his third homer of the night.

Batting stars:  Rooker was 4-for-6 with three home runs (his fifteenth, sixteenth, and seventeenth), a double, four runs, and seven RBIs.  Jose Miranda was 2-for-4 with a home run (his fourth), a double, two walks, two runs, and three RBIs.  Mark Contreras was 2-for-4 with a home run (his eighth), two runs, and two RBIs.  J. T. Riddle was 2-for-4 with a double, two runs, and two RBIs.  Jake Cave was 1-for-2 with a two-run homer, two walks, and four runs.

Pitching stars:  Griffin Jax pitched five innings, giving up a run on three hits and no walks and striking out none.  Juan Minaya struck out four in three shutout innings, giving up three hits and a walk.  Joe Harvey struck out two in a scoreless inning, giving up one hit.

Opposition star:  Yu Chang was 2-for-4 with a home run.

Good statsCave made his Saints debut and is batting .500.  Miranda is batting .333.

Bad stats:  Mitch Garver made his Saints debut and went 0-for-3, giving him an average of zero.  Keon Broxton was 1-for-4 and is batting .178.  David Banuelos was 1-for-1 and is batting .188.  Harvey has an ERA of 19.29.

Record:  The Saints are 29-31, in fourth place in the AAA East/Midwest, 8.5 games behind Omaha.

TULSA 7, WICHITA 2 IN WICHITA

Michael Busch hit a three-run homer in the fourth to give the Drillers a 3-2 lead.  Tulsa added four runs in the seventh.

Batting star:  Trey Cabbage was 1-for-3 with a two-run homer, his third.

Pitching star:  Jhonleider Salinas struck out two in 1.1 scoreless innings, giving up a walk.

Opposition stars:  Clayton Daniel was 2-for-4.  Miguel Vargas was 2-for-5 with a double.  Gerardo Carrillo pitched 5.1 innings, giving up two runs on three hits and two walks and striking out five.

Starter:  Austin Schulfer struck out six in five innings, giving up three runs on two hits and three walks.

Good stats:  Jovani Moran gave up a run in 1.2 innings and has an ERA of 1.91.  Zach Neff allowed three runs in an inning and has an ERA of 2.88.

Bad stats:  Spencer Steer was 0-for-4 and is batting .192.  Salinas has an ERA of 11.25.

Record:  The Wind Surge is 33-28, in third place in the AA Central/North, a half game behind Tulsa.

CEDAR RAPIDS 8, FORT WAYNE 5 IN SOUTH BEND

Seth Gray hit a three-run homer in the first and the Kernels scored five more in the fourth.

Batting stars:  Gray was 3-for-6 with a three-run homer (his seventh) and two runs.  Edouard Julien was 2-for-5 with a walk and two RBIs.  Alex Isola was 1-for-3 with a double, three walks, and two runs.

Pitching star:   Cody Laweryson struck out six in four innings, giving up one run on three hits and two walks.

Opposition stars:  Delvin Zinn was 3-for-4 with a walk and three runs.  The Cubs used eight pitchers.

Good stats:  Ryan Shreve gave up a run in two innings and has an ERA of 2.25.

Bad stats:  Daniel Ozoria was 0-for-4 and is batting .190.  DaShawn Keirsey was 0-for-2 and is batting .196.  Tyler Palm allowed two runs in an inning and has an ERA of 8.02.

Record:  The Kernels are 35-26, in second place in the High-A Central/West, five games behind Quad Cities.

FORT MYERS 12, PALM BEACH 10 IN FORT MYERS

The Mighty Mussels scored eight in the second to lead 8-1, fell behind 9-8 after five, tied it 9-9 in the seventh, fell behind 10-9 in the top of the eighth, and scored three in the bottom of the eighth to win it.  Jesus Feliz had an RBI single to drive home the go-ahead run.

Batting stars:  Ruben Santana was 2-for-2 with three walks.  Feliz was 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs.  Justin Washington was 2-for-4 with a triple.  Jeferson Morales was 2-for-5 with two doubles and two runs.  Misael Urbina was 1-for-5 with a grand slam (his third homer) and a walk.

Pitching stars:  Carlos Suniaga pitched 2.1 scoreless innings, giving up three hits and striking out one.  Denny Bentley struck out three in a scoreless inning, giving up a hit and a walk.

Opposition stars:  Eddy Alvarez was 4-for-5 with a home run, a walk, and five RBIs.  Federico Polanco was 2-for-4 with a walk and two runs.  Jesus E. Sanchez struck out six in 3.2 scoreless innings, giving up three hits and a walk.

Starter:  Brent Headrick struck out six in four innings but allowed five runs (three earned) on seven hits and three walks.

Good stats:  None.

Bad stats:  Nick Anderson was 0-for-3 and is batting .146.  Will Holland was 0-for-3 and is batting .188.  Washington is batting .189.  Aaron Sabato was 1-for-4 and is bating .195.  Matthew Swain allowed four runs in two-thirds of an inning and has an ERA of 5.08.  Bradley Hanner gave up a run in one inning and has an ERA of 7.54.

Record:  The Mighty Mussels are 35-26, in third place in the Low-A Southeast/West, seven games behind Tampa.
