ST. PAUL 3, INDIANAPOLIS 2 IN INDIANAPOLIS

Nick Gordon homered in the fifth to give the Saints a 3-1 lead.

Batting starsJose Miranda was 2-for-3 with a double and a walk.  Mark Contreras was 2-for-3 with a double and a walk.  Gordon was 2-for-5 with a home run (his second) and two runs.

Pitching stars:  Chandler Shepherd struck out six in five innings, giving up one run on four hits and four walks.  Ryan Mason struck out three in two shutout innings, giving up a walk.  Ralph Garza, Jr. struck out two in a scoreless inning, giving up one hit.

Opposition stars:  Chris Sharpe was 1-for-2 with a walk.  Hunter Stratton struck out four in two shutout innings, giving up a hit and a walk.

The Wind Surge led 3-0, but the Drillers scored six in the fourth and never looked back.  Ryan Noda hit a two-run homer in the fourth inning.

Batting stars:  Roy Morales was 3-for-5 with a double.  Spencer Steer was 2-for-4 with a home run, his eleventh.  Aaron Whitefield was 2-for-4.  Trey Cabbage was 1-for-4 with a home run, his twelfth.  Leobaldo Cabrera was 1-for-1 with a home run, his third.

Pitching stars:  Adam Lau pitched 1.2 scoreless innings, giving up three hits.  Zach Neff pitched a perfect inning and struck out one.

Opposition stars:  Ryan Noda was 2-for-4 with a two-run homer (his twenty-first), a walk, and two runs.  Romer Cuadrado was 2-for-4 with a two-run homer, his tenth.  Justin Yurchak was 2-for-5 with a two-run homer (his second) and two runs.

Starter:  Chris Vallimont struck out five in 3.2 innings, but allowed six runs on five hits and three walks.

Good stats:  Austin Martin was 0-for-4 and is batting .323.  Morales is batting .305.  B. J. Boyd was 1-for-4 and is batting .304.

Trailing 3-2, the Kernels scored five in the sixth to take control.  Jeferson Morales hit a two-run homer in the sixth inning.

Batting stars:  Morales was 4-for-5 with a home run, a double, and four RBIs.  Yunior Severino was 2-for-3 with a double, two walks, and two runs.  Michael Helman was 2-for-4 with a walk.

Pitching stars:  Derek Molina struck out three in 1.2 scoreless innings, giving up a hit and a walk.  Breckin Williams struck out two in 1.1 scoreless innings, giving up a walk.  Ryan Shreve struck out two in a scoreless inning, giving up one hit.
