I enjoyed that exchange because it was a callback to one of my favorite lines in Infinity War
Peter: I’m Peter, by the way. Doctor Strange: Doctor Strange. Peter: Oh. We’re using our made-up names. Then I am Spider-Man.
The first two Tom Holland Spider-man movies were pretty much perfect, and everything Spider-man in Avengers was too. So I am stupid excited for this movie. Despite generally being a Spider-man junkie, I never saw the Andrew Garfield flicks, though I intend to now, in preperation for this one.
Also the second Tobey McGuire Spiderman film was probably the best comic book movie of all time and it isn't even close.
Really?!
I hated it. I liked the first Toby McGuire one better.
Don't get me wrong, I love the first one, but it feels a little too much origin story to really capture the conflict. That's why I haven't watched the Garfield Spider-man movies yet - the origin has been done to death. It's why I appreciated both Batman Begins and the 1st Guardians - neither of them felt too far into the origin for me.
I'm with Algonad.
I just realized that I hated Spider-man 2 so much that I haven't seen a spider-man movie since.
Watch the Tom Holland ones. They're so good.
Hmmm. But that would ruin a 17-year running joke...
Into the Spider-Verse was also pretty good.
The Spider-verse soundtrack was in my Spotify top 5 in 2019
Based on the two of you making these comments, I feel like I need to revisit this one - it's been a long, long time since I've seen it.
Wow. I thought "Spiderman 2" is great was canon.
I thought it was good. It was an especially good Raimi film too.
It was excellent, but I don't know that I'd consider it the best. I'd definitely put the two Holland-led Spider-man movies (and maybe Into the Spider-verse), the 1st Guardians of the Galaxy, Batman Begins, and Thor Ragnarok into the conversation. Maybe Captain America: The Winter Soldier too, but I haven't seen that one in too long. Maybe Endgame too. But that one might be too much of an "event" to really be considered a comic book movie.
I've never understood the Captain America fan frenzy. He's too perfect in his moralistic decision making that there is no internal conflict* for him to wrestle with. Without that conflict he's just Superman made by the US government which is boring on top of lazy. This is all said just about the MCU Captain America because I do not have extensive knowledge of the written character.
*I guess that choosing between your best friend turned enemy agent and the nation is the conflict his perfect moralism has to deal with, but ... I mean .... that's it?? For love of friend over country, but ultimately bringing the wounded and PTSD afflicted winter solder back into the fold of 'merica as a way to deal with the pain and suffering wrought by the american war machine. Still, not enough meat on the conflict bone for me.
I guess I see Captain America as less about the character and his conflicts, and far more about holding a mirror up to the world/America, and being a criticism of the same.
Yes. Put me on Team Cappy any day. If you want moral conflict, look to the gang he hangs out with. He's the MCU's compass.
Also, do NOT conflate him with Superman. I'm totally bored with impervious heroes that just trade bashes with each other (incl. Hulk, etc) -- give me a Black Widow or Batman fight any day.
I found Cap's ...Endgame to be both satisfying and terribly continuity-breaking.
It's probably worth watching them if only because, with the multiverse going insane, there's probably a much-greater-than-zero chance that Garfield and/or Maguire end up in the new movie.
Oof. I think the current Venom is interesting now that Sony/Marvel is a thing
I've yet to see Venom too, but the Maximum Carnage storyline was one of my first Spider-man comic book experiences, and the new previews look so good.
Confession:
I saw the first Tobey Maguire Spiderman and the first Iron Man. I haven't seen a Marvel movie since.
Last night out of desperation, and a desire to use up the nearly over ripe pears, I made a sheet pan dinner of green onion sausage, baby red potatoes, yellow onion, and sliced pears. I par cooked the potato wedges in the microwave to expedite cook time, and set the oven to 425. Flipped the snausage half way through to brown the skin on the other side and come to an internal temp above 165. Once we got there I removed the sausage and cranked the heat up to brown the tops of the taters, and then served in a bowl with spicy brown mustard (if that's your jam). My only complaint was that the pear (because over ripe...) just became a mushy sauce like substance, but the overall was a delightful dinner. Needed a big salad, but was super lazy so that didn't happen.
if that's your jam
You're god damn right it is.
That sounds great. It makes me hungry for some kielbasa sautéed with red cabbage and apples. (although I might try that with the apples subbed out for pears.)
The consensus in the slaughterhouse was that the pears would have been better less ripe or subbed totally for granny smith apples.
Its tough to beat sautéed apples and tube shaped pork.

so much this.
Yeah, we agreed on this one.

Apparently he does mind
Feels like a cash grab.
The Nevermind tattoo across his chest is not likely to help his case.
Nice. 😀
