      1. I needed that this morning.

My nephew is currently in surgery for an "unknown" digestive ailment (they have it narrowed down, and they'll find out when doing the surgery, thus adjusting which surgery they do), and I'm just sitting on pins and needles waiting for it to get done.

        1. Sounds like it went well. I know from experience with Aristotle that the recovery can be plenty challenging for the babies/parents too, so hopefully that all goes just as well! Thanks for the prayers and support all!

  1. Yesterday I made a batch each of pickled banana peppers and pickled peppers and onions. They turned out perfect. A few days back I made some roasted garlic and pepper (ghost/habanero) oil, and some nuclear ketchup. For the ketchup I blended together some roasted cherry tomatoes, the hot peppers removed from the pepper oil, some tomato paste, apple cider vinegar and then added regular ketchup into the mix until it became edible. It is one nuclear ketchup! Thanks Nibbish for the habaneros and ghost peppers.

    1. Neighbor has a dozen or so apple trees on their property and the kids have been bringing home their daily ‘collection’ for the past week or two. Had a break yesterday so I made a pie (used pre-made crust) with this recipe - tweaked, of course, with ingredients I had vs. those I didn’t. It was good.

      sub.
      -corn starch for tapioca flour
      -apple butter for apple jelly
-home made apple pie spice* for grains of paradise

      *
      4 tablespoons ground cinnamon
      1 1/2 teaspoons ground nutmeg
      1/2 teaspoon ground allspice
      1 teaspoon ground ginger
      1 1/2 teaspoons ground cardamom

    2. Hey Zoom, we were in your neck of the woods celebrating our anniversary yesterday. We remembered your earlier recommendations and went out to Carlos Creek winery for the afternoon, sampled some wines, walked the vines, tried some beers at 22 Northmen. Our plan was to visit the restaurant again but we got so hungry we just got a Stokes pizza and then we had to head home to take care of the pets. We're hoping to make another trip there before the snow flies, though.

      1. Sorry I missed out on seeing you again, but glad you had a good visit to the area. Saw some mutual brothers of ours a couple weeks ago at one of their father's wake in Richmond. Jono, Jon K, and Mike H. Sad most of our get togethers lately involve someone passing away.

    3. I made another superhot curry with garden tomatoes and peppers like last year. This year, instead of going full nuclear with a ghost pepper, I went "explosive but survivable" with 3 habaneros and a couple of jalapenos. The result is a lot closer to what I'm looking for, and the leftovers it made (since I'm the only person in the house who will eat it) are fantastic.
