  1. It figures that as soon as I start paying attention to the Wild they lose some games. (I started watching during the San Jose game)

  2. My favorite team in the Russian Rugby Championship (Чемпионат России по регби) - RC Novokuznetsk a/k/a Metallurg - are based in Kaprizov's home town

What a Wild connection (ok, ok, OK, I'll show myself out)

      1. My in-house translator says

        Rugby Club 'Metallurg', Novokuznets

"Kuznets" = "Smith" so basically "New Smith"

"Metallurg" just means metallurgist. She says Russians were big on industrial names for a period, even citing "Traktorina" as a girl's name. 😀

  3. Just bought my first concert tickets since the pandemic. Amusingly, it's the same band as the last concert I was at just before everything shut down.

      1. A group of us rented out a theater for Dune, which was a nice way to ease back into the big screen experience. Also helps that the movie is great.

        1. I bought one ticket to Dune and had the place to myself … until we met the Momoa character (Duncan?). Then a family - mom, dad and two teenage boys - came in and sat two rows ahead of me. Figured I’d be good. I was not. They chatted and whispered a lot throughout. I was surprised that the mom was the worst.

        1. Been to 2 movies and same low attendance experience. However going to Spider-Man Christmas Day.

I have been to like 10-12 concerts. But all had a max mandate.

              1. our local got remodeled a couple of years back to include recliners for most of their screens including the Big Screen. So lots of space between rows.

    1. We were supposed to see Alan Parsons again in September but it was postponed. They announced the new date this week and it will be in April, on my birthday. AP was also our last concert back in November of 2019.

  4. For readers of Techwire, there is an interview with a Close Personal Friend in yesterday's News.

It reads a bit too much like stream-of-consciousness for my tastes, and the writer doesn't appear to know the difference between SAS and SaaS. But I don't think my CPF said anything that will get him in trouble.

      1. Probably best that way! 🙂

I have a copy if anyone is really eager to see what my CPF has to say.

        1. I would like to read it (I also hit the access wall). My email address is my moniker here at comcast dot net.

  5. The local news had a pretty disturbing set of weather facts last night: this month StL has set a new Dec. high of 76°F, a new Dec. overnight low high of 60°F, and we're running something like 13°F over average for the month.

        1. If you were watching on YouTubeTV, the feed got cut off with about 9 minutes left in game as all Disney channels were dropped midnight eastern time due to payment dispute.

    1. I actually supervised a future Miss America for her summer research project when I was at U of Illinois. She was a smart and focused kid.

      1. 1983 Miss USA and 1985 4th runner up Miss America lived in the dorm across the parking lot from our dorm at MSU. Those and a cup of coffee will still leave us thirsty.

        1. I dated Miss Minnesota (4th runner up Miss USA) for about a year back in the late 90's, and we remained good friends for nearly twenty years before she died tragically from an eating disorder at the age of 48. She was talented, smart, funny, kind and beautiful. (I always thought she looked like a young Katherine Hepburn.) Got a birthday and Christmas card every year from her while she was still alive. I sure do miss her.
