June 26, 2022: All Bat, No Arm

As of this writing, I'm somehow (tied for) 2nd in the WGOM Baseball league. I'm first (or near) in every batting stat, and near or at the bottom in every pitching stat. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

  1. COVID update. The Mrs is almost completely recovered. I am a day or two behind her.

If we didn't know about COVID, this would have been a moderately bad cold. I am giving credit to the 4 shots each of vaccine (and, in her case, Paxlovid), but it could be our general health and dumb luck.

    1. I’ve had next to no symptoms but dr. Chop had a gnarly fever and still hacks a bit. However, I am still testing positive which means I can not go into the office. Bummer about that.

      1. Mild to moderate cold symptoms & brief fever for the Poissonnière, moderate cold symptoms, brief but intense fever, & significant fatigue for Mrs. Hayes (who got Paxlovid), mild cold symptoms for me. Very thankful we all were boosted by the time it finally got us.

  2. I see a rumor that LSU is trying to hire away Wes Johnson to be its pitching coach. No one with LSU or Twins ties seems to be on the rumor, but that's a bizarre lateral move (especially mid-season) if true.

      1. The Athletic has a piece on the why of this, but I am not a subscriber. What is the gist?

        1. I don't see a why in the piece.

But 90% of internet commenters believe either Wes is the reason for the Twins terrible season or that Rocco is so awful to work with that Wes couldn't take it anymore

          1. Wes would be the top pitching guy at LSU versus having a front office as the overall head of development. This is his fourth season with the Twins so the LSU offer may have been too good, and possibly time limited, and Wes being ready for something new.

        2. There’s not a lot from inside the Twins but it appears that LSU pursued aggressively and offered lots of $$$. Why he didn’t take it in off season is where the fun will be.

              1. "off-season"? The CWS just ended and the school year is out. Wow. That is some indentured servitude for the "student-athletes."

          1. The Athletic says $750k versus the $350k Johnson earned when the Twins first hired him. One of the comments mentions travel. I have to imagine, even with recruiting, there will be less travel than with an MLB team.
