2022 Game 143: Twins at Cleveland: This one’s for a large contingency of the marbles

4 games back. If they're gonna do it, they gotta do it now. And also pass the White Sox. And maybe if the AL East beats up on themselves they could somehow eek out a wild card spot and then lose right away?

I'm skeptical anything good will happen. But it's been a fun enough season, they took a step forward even with devastating injuries, I'm excited about several of their young players, and they're playing meaningful ball in September. I know that's a trite cliche, but I think it works for this team.

I'm too Minnesota to be truly optimistic, so maybe I'll just settle for "it's not winter yet."

  1. That's pretty much where I am. It's still frustrating that the Twins lost so many games they could've won. But in the WGOM pre-season poll, I picked them to finish below .500. They still might, of course, but if you'd told me that with twenty games to go, we'd still have a shot at the division title--even a not-very-good shot--I'd have taken that. It has been a fun season, despite everything. I'm skeptical, too, but it is baseball, so who knows?

    1. Judge is ten points behind and would have to jump three guys. It's not impossible, but it's pretty unlikely.

    2. Arraez has enough PAs to qualify even if he doesn't play another game. That means Judge will need to get his .310 up to about .320 to win. I estimate he'll finish at around 575 ABs so he'll need 184 hits to finish at .320 exactly. That's 25 more hits in 19 more games. Possible but quite the hot streak.

  2. I've seen McKenzie pitch a few times now, he's good. At least we made him throw a lot of pitches that inning.

  3. Myles Straw did a jungle hack with his bat after the called strike, and got thrown out. Glad he didn't have a machete.
