  1. Dan Hayes broke down the Twins part of the re-negotiation with Correa.

Couple parts that stood out to me:

When he called again on Tuesday, Boras informed the Twins they’d need to improve upon their original offer. Team sources said the Twins wouldn’t increase their bid, nor would they hold further discussions until they had a better understanding of the medical concerns that reportedly caused Correa’s deal with the Giants to fall apart.

But just a week later, with presumably another shot at Correa, the Twins pressed pause.

They wanted to re-evaluate after an Associated Press report Tuesday said Correa’s introduction was postponed when “a medical concern arose” during his physical. The Giants issued a statement on Wednesday saying they’d had a “difference of opinion over the results of Carlos’ physical examination.”

As much as the Twins hoped to retain Correa, a team source said the club hadn’t had an opportunity to thoroughly examine him since his original physical in March. The only extended examination Correa received during the season was when he was thought to have broken his finger on May 5 after getting hit by a pitch in Baltimore.

No examination was made following a Sept. 20 contest in which Correa appeared to be injured following a hard slide into second base, according to a team source. Thrown out stealing, Correa lay on the ground for an extended period before ultimately getting up on his own and limping off the field. Correa remained in the game.

That night, he told reporters he was OK after having a brief scare with his surgically-repaired lower right leg.

“He just hit my plate,” Correa said, referring to the hardware in his leg. “I had surgery and he hit it. Just kind of felt numb. Vibrating. So I was just waiting for it to calm down. It was a little scary, but when I moved I knew I was good.”

    1. So they employed him for a year, offered him a ten-year deal worth over a quarter-billion dollars, and then second-guessed their understanding of his medicals when he nearly fell back into their laps?

A report like that might lead a fan to think they were never actually trying to be the top bidder.

  2. Giants going all in for the Taylor/Tyler confusion by signing the other T. Rogers.

    1. That seems like a lot of money for a guy who is on the wrong side of 30 and by rWAR has been replacement level the last three seasons.

          1. I remember that Nolasco was one of those guys that always had a better FIP than ERA. I kept dressing him in fantasy baseball and I kept being disappointed.

          2. Probably, but it's similar to have reverse splits: it takes many, many innings. In the case of Rogers, his FIP with the Twins is close to his ERA. In 2018 his ERA was worse than his FIP while in 2019 his ERA was better.

  3. A month ago I deleted Twitter from my phone. My depression has improved quite a bit since then. I think part of it is less doom scrolling. But a not insignificant part is just less time with my neck cocked down.

I can stare at a desktop monitor for hours and feel fine. Fifteen minutes looking at my phone and I feel dizzy.

Beau's phone must be one of those rotary ones...

  4. I watched Everything Everywhere All At Once two nights ago. Not quite what I was expecting. Really good but perhaps not up to the hype.

    1. We started that one and were about half hour in when Philosofette had an EMT call (this was about a month ago). We never got back to it before returning it to the library. I'll have to get it again sometime.

  5. Tonight I watched Black Adam. It lived up (down?) to the reviews.

It was a bit jarring to leap into the "Justice Society" with no real introduction. And the best/most interesting character was probably Pierce Brosnan's Dr. Fate, unfortunately.

The characters lacked depth. We didn't get enough character development of Hawkman and Dr. Fate to really care about their friendship. The two youngsters on the team were mostly afterthoughts.

    1. The price was right, though.

The least interesting superheroes to me are the Supermans/Hulks/Wonder Womans that bash each other, get thrown back a few hundred yards, then come back and do it again. Much more entertaining to watch a Batman, Black Widow, or Daredevil that has to use their skills and environment to win the fight. In other words, Twins > Yankees

  6. We watched The Banshees of Inisherin a couple of nights ago. I'd probably set the over/under for Oscar awards at 4, maybe 5.
