  1. This holiday virus that's been going around is nasty and tenacious, and my SIL the public health nurse can confirm it is widespread. Mrs. Twayn has it worse than I have, so our New Year celebrations were muted and severely abridged. I had a whole list of stuff to do last week but spent most of that time blowing my nose and coughing so none of it got done. I did muster the gumption to assemble the new snow blower, but that was about it. I'm sure I'll get the momentum back as the year goes on.

    1. Not sure if this is the same gig, but 1) the Kleenex has both Christmas's colors; 2) the coughing ends up with a nasty fur-ball - both the wife and the MIL say don't swallow it but spit it out if possible; 3) frequent naps; 4) parched lips; 5) weepy eyes; 6) headache behind the ears; 7) chills

    2. I got nailed by it last week. Started with a headache on the 28th — the day we were planning to drive back to the People’s Republic. Dropped an Imatex + two Aleve as soon as I felt it coming on, since I assumed it was a migraine. No relief. I laid down for a while, tried to rest, and rallied enough to CSMO. Halfway home, I could feel it coming back with a vengeance, along with my eyes starting to burn. Powered through, got the car unloaded, unpacked, and tried to eat something. Completely lost my appetite midway into a burger, got up, washed my face, brushed my teeth, and that’s all I remember.

I spent the next two days mostly in bed; my sinuses felt like I had a mixture of sparkle & roofing caulk in them. I barely ate anything, drank fluids as I could because my throat was sore. Took a home COVID test (thank you, federal public health officials!), which came back negative. I can’t take decongestants because of drug interactions, so I could only ride it out. Was only back up & around yesterday.

Completely torpedoed our NYE plans, which were supposed to be the first NYE with friends in three years, at their newly renovated house. Thanks to whichever relative wasn’t considerate enough to quarantine after having this virus.

      1. Oof, I had that a couple weeks ago and it would have suuuuuucked if I couldn't take a decongestant. I imagine I got it from going to a concert at the Sylvee.

  2. I started off 2023 on the right foot with my fourth AFib event this morning. It only lasted a couple of hours, but that's long enough! We'll see if the doctor wants to take action at this point.

  3. We pulled the trigger and ordered a Bolt EUV. Not only did we get under the wire on a price increase, but found out I qualify for a nice GM Supplier discount. Now God knows how many months before the car actually arrives.

      1. Yup. Tulane took 3 plays to score. On the ensuing kickoff, the USC receiver muffed it out of bounds at the one. Safety on second down. Tulane down by six. Tulane then drove down and scored the winning TD with 8 seconds left.

  4. Power came on last night after about 26-27 hours, while I was picking mrsS up at the airport.

We spent about 4 hours cleaning up tree limbs, with the help of a neighbor. Just in time, as the rain has started again.
