2023 Game Log 126 – Twins and Brewers

The second two-game, mid-week series of the season against the Brewers starts today in Milwaukee in what used to be called Miller Park. Although the temps seem to be moderate, Milwaukee is still under a heat warning (humidity?) so I am sure the roof will be closed.

Bailey Ober up for the Twins. I really like the season he is having, especially his 1k per inning stat and the fact that he throws one walk for every five strikeouts. I doubt he will start a playoff game, but could see him in a high leverage relief effort there. (I know I'm getting ahead of myself). Wade Miley on for the Brewers and he's not a high strikeout pitcher but I am sure the Twins will help him there.

Brewers having a nice little season this year with a lead in the NL Central. Should be a fun two games.

First pitch at 7:10.

  1. Ober hasn't been as good in August as the rest of the season and his worst start of the season came on July 29. Through that terrible start, he had a 3.19 ERA (3.79 FIP). In the three starts since, it's a 4.47 ERA and 4.80 FIP. He had seven straight starts of 6 or 7 innings but only five IP in the previous three starts and four IP on July 29. He's at 131 innings pitched so far this year. Joe Ryan made a rehab start with the Saints so I thought he might replace Keuchel but maybe he will replace Ober.

      1. I'm reasonably convinced it's intentional. Guaranteed way to get fans in the park midweek.

        1. Back in the 80's, when I lived in LaCrosse there was a group of us, both Twins & Brewers fans that would make the trip to Minneapolis and catch all 3 games when there was a weekend series. Big missed opportunity by MLB.

    1. I’m with bS.
I will also say, not for the first time and certainly not for the last time, I do not understand the way Rocco and his coaches manage the pitchers. Certainly I’m sure they “know” what they’re doing, but I don’t understand it.

      1. Also, why is a journeyman like Jordan Luplow batting third? That I really don't get.

        "Hot hand"? Uh, I guess.
