  1. Thanks for the advice on dealing with aging parents. I have no idea what the next steps are but we’re working every angle we can to get him into a care facility.

The CVSO’s office has been very kind and is going to talk dr. Chop though some options. His nurse is also working some angles while his son bitches about us to their dad’s friends. The BiL went up there and was horrified to see his old man in diapers and needing assistance on the toilet and in pain and and and and. Yeah, dude. This isn’t a good situation. Instead of working out a plan to get him into a facility he chose to flame his sister which resulted in multiple phone calls from Stevie (who hasn’t spoken to my FiL in 10 years because they had a huge fight). Stevie precedes to tell dr. Chop that she’s a bad daughter and that she needs to get here now because he’ll die if left alone. Thanks, Stevie. We didn’t know that. This is the shits.

Again, grateful for this corner of the intrawebs.

    1. If you need help kicking asses, I've never been to NOLA and I've been looking for a reason to visit

        1. Guess we'll have to make sure we're not in the pit then.

Or use jiu jitsu maybe? Seems like a bad loophole to leave in the signage.

    2. Meat - busy weekend at my house - just getting back to the basement and see that I missed your initial LTE. It appears that you’ve already received good information from our community here (connecting with the local CVSO is always my first recommendation) but please reach out to me directly if you’d like to discuss further. I’ve been with the MDVA for nearly nine years. Shoot me a email: ben dot johnson (at) state dot mn dot us.

We don’t offer assisted living, but we do operate four skilled nursing homes (& opening 3 more late this year or early next), an adult day program at the Minneapolis Vets Home campus, as well as a domiciliary program in Hastings for non-skilled board & care. There are waitlists, but our admissions offices are generally pretty good at helping families access at least some support while they’re waiting.

I also have a good relationship with the leaders of the federal VA Healthcare Systems throughout the state if the CVSO has any issues that could be elevated.

I can’t guarantee smooth sailing and, as with any bureaucracy, it will take some time, but there are resources and services available that should be helpful.

  2. a deeply unserious organization

    1. Ridiculous. Hopefully she will get another shot somewhere instead of the same ol' same ol' recycling of old white guys.

    2. The White Sox kind of look foolish for hiring Chris Getz with a few weeks left in the season when they need a Kim Ng

    1. Per Chad Jennings at the Athletic,

It’s unclear whether the Red Sox plan to pursue former Marlins general manager Kim Ng, who stepped down from that role on Monday. Other external candidates are believed to be in the mix; Monday, a New York Post report mentioned former Red Sox reliever Craig Breslow as one person viewed as a potentially strong candidate.

the Smartest man in baseball may have something to say about that.

    1. He did more than announce his retirement.

“Sell the team dude,” May said. “Sell it, man. Let someone who actually takes pride in the things they own, own something. There’s actually people who give a s— about the game. Let them do it.”
“Take mommy and daddy’s money somewhere else, dork. And also, if you’re going to be a greedy f—, own it. There’s nothing weaker than being afraid of cameras. That’s one thing I really struggled with this year, not just eviscerating that guy. Do what you’re going to do, bro. You’re whatever. You’re a billionaire. You guys have all this power. You shouldn’t have any because you didn’t earn any of it.”

      1. "You're a billionaire. You guys have all this power. You shouldn't have any because you haven't earned any of it," he added. "Reality is you got you got handed everything you have, and now you're too soft to sit and stand in front of or take any responsibility for anything you're doing. Yeah, whatever, Oakland is Oakland. You can make all the cases it's not a great city.

But you're putting hundreds if not thousands of people out of work that have worked somewhere for decades, and you haven't acknowledged that at all. Just be better. That's all we're asking. Just be a human being," May said.

  3. The Astros are losing because they had too many days off after their series with the Twins didnt go the full set
