January 5, 2024: Key Demographic

I'm a part of an airline's mileage club, and they also give you points if you dine at select restaurants. Normally I ignore the emails I get encouraging me to use the program more, but I gotta admit, they got my attention this time:

SUBJ: We're sandwich obsessed, what about you? SelectShow

  1. Estrellas was out-hit 8-4, but defeated Escogido 3-0 yesterday. Miguel Sano was 2-for-3 with a home run. Lewin Diaz was 1-for-3 with a home run. Starter Esmil Rogers got the win. He pitched five shutout innings, giving up six hits but no walks and striking out three. The save went to Neftali Feliz, who pitched a scoreless ninth, giving up one hit and striking out one.

Estrellas takes its record to 6-1, and still leads Licey by one game in the round-robin playoff.

  2. Oh man, don't start Mrs Runner on the points discussion. She got her start using the 10xtravel.com plan to build up points, and we now have more than enough for our post-retirement 'round-the-world trip airfare...in business class even.

    1. I recently had a Cubano from a place in Harlem. Very disappointing. And I love Cubanos. It was dry, and just generally deficient with the toppings.

      1. I’ve heard one should get the chopped cheese when in Harlem, but I’ve only ever been to Brighton Beach so I’ve never had the opportunity.

  3. Ben Johnson has 8 Big Ten wins under his belt.
    2 have come against Michigan.
    Wild stuff.

  4. I’ve had six of the sandwiches on that list, but only three in the associated city. Never had Banh Mi but it sounds delicious. I’ve had crab cakes, of course, but never as a sandwich. We shall have to remedy that.

    1. banh mi are, indeed, delicious. You need to find a good Vietnamese place and try one, Twayn. Pork is probably most traditional, but I also like chicken.

And the pickled veggies (carrots and daikon) are super easy to do at home. Great in sandwiches and salads.

    2. Next time you are in St. Paul, hit me up. I'll take you to IPho for a Banh Mi that will change your life.

      1. Take me too! That’s where I bring my team when they are visiting us in the central office up here in the Capitol city.

  5. "up to three" is really a cruel restriction on the poll. I'm pretty much enthusiastic about all of them. Maybe I would leave out the crab cake, because those are already kinda sandwichey and best served in not a sandwich. Just a wedge of lemon, a little salad, and some remoulade.

    1. I could've left it at one like you're ordering somewhere. Let's say you're at a restaurant with two people willing to split and share. Which three are you ordering today (not for all time, just today)?

  6. Perhaps unpopular take: I like Muffelettas in theory, but bread part diminishes my enjoyment. I like muffelatta loaf (focacca?) just fine, but it's too much bread to be good for a sammich.

    1. For the good ones I've had/made, the middle of the bread was scooped out. So you still get the crust outside for structural integrity, but not so much bread to drown it out and make it dry.

  7. are Google sites down, or just for me on my laptop via the Brave browser? (I get errors indicating sites can't be reached on Brave, but FF works fine, as does my phone on the same wifi. and my laptop says I am connected. )

I can get here, but not Google, nor FB nor my Yahoo mail. Weird.

    Brave version 1.61.114
