January 17, 2024: Summary Deletion

They upgraded Office at work and it brought back a function that was needlessly removed from the last version: the ability to delete emails from the notification. For whatever reason, that wasn't an option with the last version. Quickly and conveniently die, unnecessary emails, die!

  1. Estrellas lost to the Gigantes 4-1 yesterday. Lewin Diaz was 0-for-4, No Estrellas player had more than one hit. Johnny Cueto pitched 2.2 innings, giving up one run on five hits and a walk, to take the loss.

Estrellas is still in first place with a record of 10-6. They lead Escogido and Licey by two games with two games to play.

  2. Public service announcement: If your doctor suggests for you to get your shingles vaccination, do NOT procrastinate, thinking " I will take care of it later." I am 9 days into very little sleep due to excruciating pain that medicine does not seem to touch. I made one trip to the ER thinking I was having a heart attack. At this point I am thinking I would rather have a kidney stone than shingles. I have heard some people recover in a few weeks. I have also heard some people deal with it for years. I can't even begin to imagine dealing with this more than a few more weeks.

    1. The shingles vaccine is not a passive one, but I would much rather have sweats/chills for a day or so after each of the shots than get shingles. Hoping your recovery is near.

      1. I am one of those weirdos who doesn't react. MrsS was knocked sideways for a day and a half by the second dose. I had a slightly sore arm

  3. We have just about everything booked and paid for for our month-long trip coming up in Feb (into March)

I'll be working from abroad again (Spain again), like we did in November 2021.

We've got side trips to Rome and Tangier planned, as well as a day back in Granada to re-see the Alhambra

  4. So, yesterday I made a batch of Bolognese. Today, I made two lasagnes (one for neighbors' with a newborn, one for us).

This just in: Bolognese is great. I riff off of this Serious Eats recipe. I skipped the pancetta and chicken livers and used ground beef and ground pork, plus a dozen mushrooms, ground. Otherwise, pretty close. It is obscene.
