    1. Been there a good handful of times. At first, I thought it was an adventurous, fun place to explore with kids. Last time I went it was hot and the A/C wasn't working and I realized I was too old to keep up with my little ones. It was also ridiculously crowded. I think I'm good for a while.

  1. We went to St. Louis last week and the city museum did not go well for us. Having a 10-year-old with ADHD and anxiety issues is not conducive to that environment. Also, I found out from going on the ferris wheel at Union Station that I do not mix well with heights.

      1. I was quite content with the model of the keystone that had live cameras in the museum. It was also really windy that day so it would have been bad. The museum was excellent, though.

        1. I really like the revamped museum -- reminded me of Churchill War Rooms, what with all the interactive multimedia involved.

Wind isn't doing anything to the Arch. It's not going anywhere. The Arch is designed to sway up to 18 inches, but a 50 MPH wind only moves it 1.5 inches

          1. Intellectually I know it isn't going anywhere, but if I felt any sway I'd be done. It was windy the day before when we went on the ferris wheel and that was... not fun.

    1. Yeah, we went Sunday and the pre-eclipse crowd was there so it was about 3-4x more people than the last time we went which was pretty crazy. I'd taken Rick last summer, so we were used to it, but the wife couldn't take it initially. She had originally been trying to follow and keep track of Rick the whole time. I got texts like "I can't take it! He keeps disappearing and popping up in a completely different place a minute later!" I tried to explain you have to just find a static spot to park yourself in and let go. Once she got to that point she said she became much calmer and enjoyed the place. You can't control the chaos there. You just have to embrace it.

Also, we've spent about 12 hours there in total now, and I was still coming across whole new, giant swaths of the place I didn't know existed. Like I found the caves only an hour or so before we left. We didn't even touch the 2nd and 4th floors this time and we were there all day.

      1. HJ,

I just sent your LTE to my wife and she knew right away you were taking about City Museum.

She had the same experience as your wife. The kids literally disappeared in the ceiling!

  2. Twenty years ago this week I took up residence inside a Yugoslavian-designed & constructed hydroelectric dam. Definitely the most unusual place I’ve ever “lived” for more than a night or two.

        1. Yup, saw it last Monday. While they may not eventually remember much, the kids won't be able to say we didn't bring them to everything.

          1. This is kinda where we are with Kid2. She's been abroad twice before her 4th birthday. Chances she remembers much is pretty low, but we'll remember and we have the pictures.

            1. We took our kids to see the 2017 total solar eclipse. Our younger one was 3, so he doesn't remember it at all. The older one was 6, but all he remembers is eating Oreos into the shape of the Sun as eclipse progressed.
