ROCHESTER 8, NORFOLK 1 IN ROCHESTER
Batting stars: Doug Bernier was 2-for-4 with a grand slam (his fourth homer) and two runs. Deibinson Romero was 2-for-4 with a three-run homer (his sixth) and a double. Chris Colabello was 2-for-4 with a home run, his fourth.
Pitching stars: Scott Diamond pitched six innings, giving up one run on three hits and a walk with three strikeouts. Lester Oliveros struck out two in two perfect innings. Deolis Guerra pitched a scoreless inning, giving up two hits.
Opposition star: Quintin Berry was 2-for-4 with a double and a walk, scoring once.
The game: Berry and Brent Wallace doubled in the fourth to give Norfolk a 1-0 lead. Colabello homered in the bottom of the fourth to tie it at one. In the fifth, a single, a walk, and another single loaded the bases, and Bernier delivered a two-out grand slam to give Rochester a 5-1 lead. In the seventh, the first two batters were retired, but then Eric Farris and Bernier singled and Romero hit a three-run homer to put the game out of reach. The Tides did not get a hit in the fifth through eighth innings.
Of note: Farris was 1-for-5 with a run. Chris Herrmann was 1-forr-4 with a double.
BINGHAMTON 8, NEW BRITAIN 3 IN NEW BRITAIN
Batting star: Reynaldo Rodriguez was 2-for-4 with two home runs, his thirteenth and fourteenth.
Pitching stars: None.
Opposition stars: Dustin Lawley was 3-for-5 with a double and a home run (his eleventh), driving in four. Rylan Sandoval was 2-for-4 with three RBIs. Rainy Lara pitched six innings, allowing one run on five hits and a walk with five strikeouts.
The game: Sandoval singled in two in the second and Rodriguez homered in the bottom of the second to make the score 2-1. It stayed 2-1 until the seventh. The first two Mets went out, but then came a hit batsman, a walk, a Jayce Boyd RBI single, and a two-run double by Lawley to make it 5-1. Mike Kvasnicka doubled and scored in the bottom of the seventh to cut the lead to 5-2, but Binghamton added a run in the eighth and got two in the ninth to go up 8-2. Rodriguez homered again in the ninth.
Of note: Brad Boyer was 0-for-4. Aaron Hicks was 1-for-3 with a walk. Eddie Rosario was 0-for-4. Kennys Vargas was 1-for-4. Starter Taylor Rogers pitched 6.2 innings, giving up four runs on six hits and two walks with three strikeouts.
FORT MYERS 10, PALM BEACH 6 IN FORT MYERS
Batting stars: Jorge Polanco was 3-for-4 with a double and a walk, scoring once. Dalton Hicks was 1-for-4 with a double and a walk, scoring once and driving in two. Stuart Turner was 2-for-4 with a run and two RBIs.
Pitching stars: Brett Lee pitched three shutout innings, giving up one hit with two strikeouts. Steven Gruver pitched a scoreless inning with one walk and one strikeout. Brandon Peterson struck out two in a scoreless inning, giving up one hit.
Opposition stars: Charlie Tilson was 3-for-5 with a double and two runs. Anthony Garcia was 2-for-4 with a home run, his seventh.
The game: Four singles plated two for Palm Beach in the first inning. Fort Myers got one back in the bottom of the first on a Nate Roberts RBI double. Each team scored three times in the third and once in the fourth, leaving the Cardinals ahead 6-5. The Miracle finally took the lead in the fifth on run-scoring singles by Travis Harrison and Turner. In the seventh, three singles, a walk, and three wild pitches added up to three more runs and put the game out of reach.
Of note: Lance Ray was 0-for-4. Adam Brett Walker II was 1-for-4 with a walk and scored twice. Max Kepler was 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI. Starter D. J. Baxendale pitched four innings, giving up six runs on eight hits and no walks with two strikeouts.
CLINTON AT CEDAR RAPIDS
The game was suspended due to inclement weather after nine innings with the score tied 3-3. It appears that they had tried to get it in, but Cedar Rapids foiled the plan by scoring in the ninth to tie it up. It will be completed at a later date, as it's not possible to complete it at an earlier date.
ELIZABETHTON 8, BRISTOL 5 IN ELIZABETHTON (COMPLETION OF SUSPENDED GAME
Batting stars: Trey Vavra was 3-for-5 with a double and a triple, scoring twice and driving in two. Max Murphy was 2-for-3 with a home run (his third) and two walks, scoring twice. Tanner English was 2-for-4 with a walk and two RBIs.
Pitching stars: Keaton Steele pitched three innings, giving up one run on three hits and a walk with two strikeouts. Jake Reed pitched a perfect inning with one strikeout.
Opposition stars: Eduardo Figueroa was 3-for-5 with a double and a run. Jerrick Suiter was 2-for-2 with a walk, scoring once and driving in one. Luis Paula pitched 2.1 scoreless innings, giving up one hit and striking out one.
The game: It was suspended the previous day in the bottom of the first, leaving both teams trying to piece the game together with their bullpens. Elizabethton opened the second with two doubles followed by two singles, ultimately resulting in a four-run inning that put the Twins in control early. Each team scored twice in the third, making the score 6-2. It was 7-3 after seven. Bristol scored twice in the eighth to come within 7-5, but two errors led to an Elizabethton run in the bottom of the eighth and the Pirates went down in order in the ninth.
Of note: Nick Gordon was 0-for-4 with an RBI. Tyler Mautner was 1-for-5 with a double and a run. Starter Derrick Penilla pitched one inning before the game was suspended, giving up no runs on one hit with one strikeout.
ELIZABETHTON 12, BRISTOL 1 IN ELIZABETHTON (7 INNINGS--REGULARLY SCHEDULED GAME)
Batting stars: Max Murphy was 3-for-5 with a double and two triples, scoring once and driving in three. Tanner English was 3-for-4 with a double and a hit-by-pitch, scoring three times and driving in two. Austin Diemer was 3-for-4 with a double and a run.
Pitching stars: Michael Cederoth struck out six in 3.2 innings, giving up one run on two hits and a walk. Samuel Clay struck out three in two shutout innings, giving up a hit and a walk. C. K. Irby struck out two in 1.1 scoreless innings, giving up two hits.
Opposition stars: Eduardo Figueroa was 2-for-4 with a double. Josh Sever struck out three in 2.1 scoreless innings, allowing three hits.
The game: Elizabethton scored nine runs in the first inning, pretty much ending things right there. They sent thirteen batters to the plate. There were five singles, three doubles, a triple, an error, a hit batsman, and two wild pitches. The only hit that scored more than one run was a two-run double by English.
Of note: Jonatan Hinojosa was 2-for-5 with a double and two runs. Tyler Kuresa was 1-for-4 with a run and an RBI. Jorge Fernandez was 1-for-2 with a run and an RBI.
GCL RAYS 8, GCL TWINS 3 AT TWINS
Batting stars: Amaurys Minier was 2-for-4 with a double and a walk, scoring once and driving in one. Logan Wade was 2-for-4 with a double and a run.
Pitching stars: Wilfredy Liranzo struck out five in 3.2 scoreless innings, giving up three hits and a walk. Zach Hayden pitched a scoreless inning, giving up a hit and a walk with one strikeout. Seth Wagner pitched a perfect inning with one strikeout.
Opposition stars: Christian Knott was 3-for-4 with a double and a triple, scoring twice and driving in one. Cade Gotta was 2-for-5 with a double, scoring once and driving in one. Angel Yepez pitched five innings, allowing one run on two hits and no walks with four strikeouts.
The game: The Rays scored six in the second inning to put it out of reach early. There was no one big blow, just a single, an error, a double, a triple, and four more singles. The Twins never got closer than five runs after that.
Of note: Dubal Baez was 0-for-3 and reached on catcher's interference. Starter Michael Theofanopolous didn't last as long as it takes to type his name, going 1.1 innings and giving up six runs (five earned) on six hits and no walks with one strikeout.
DSL REDS 7, DSL TWINS 6 AT REDS
Batting stars: Lewin Diaz was 2-for-4 with a home run (his second) and a walk, driving in four. Jermaine Palacios was 2-for-3 with a walk, scoring once and driving in one. Emmanuel Morel was 1-for-4 with a walk, scoring twice.
Pitching stars: Randolph Perez pitched 3.1 scoreless innings, giving up two hits with two strikeouts. Erick Balbuena struck out two in two perfect innings.
Opposition stars: Jose De Luna was 2-for-5 with a double and four RBIs. Gabriel Ovalle was 2-for-4 with a walk and two runs. Alfredo Mena pitched four shutout innings, allowing four hits and a walk with two strikeouts.
The game: De Luna hit a two-run double in a four-run third that put the Reds up 5-1. Diaz hit a two-run homer in the fourth to cut the lead to 5-3. It stayed 5-3 until the ninth, when four singles and a hit batsman tied the game at five and a walk put the Twins ahead 6-5. The first two Reds went out in the bottom of the ninth, but then came a single and two walks to load the bases and De Luna hit a two-run single to give the Reds the victory.
Of note: Luis Arraez was 2-for-5 with a run. Junior Aramante was 1-for-4 with a walk. Starter Luis Hernandez pitched 2.2 innings, giving up five runs on five hits and three walks with three strikeouts.
