Really not much to say here. The Twins on the path for the 2nd Wildcard and Cleveland winning at an historic rate lately, while still fighting for home field through the ALCS and perhaps World Series so both teams have something to play for.
Should be a fun series.
Bartolo Colon on the mound and based on previous starts, may not have a whole lot left or at least batters have figured out to just go after that big and sexy first pitch. Josh Timlin on the mound for the Wahoos and while his season numbers are 9-9 with a 4.98 ERA, he is 5-0 in his last five starts. Thus proving that old adage: when a team goes 29-2 over 31 games, the pitchers are going to pick up a bunch of wins.
Game time at 6:10p local. By 10:00p, we could be celebrating a playoff birth. What a country.
On the board!
ROSARIO!
That was quick.
Yeah, this game was loads of fun for about five minutes
Ooh, I think Bruce was safe. Glad they didn't challenge
Colon given the quick hook. Wow.
Wow. I turn the app on again And theres duffey!
He was throwing batting practice
Cleindian sqwaukers musing if its the end of the line for Colon. That would be a Colectomy.
CLE play-by-play dude is like Gordo on PEDs with that fly ball.
Eddie!!!
SEND HIM!!!!
Ugh... I feel dirty cheering for the White Sox tonight.
I'd rather just win two against Cleveland
Hmm. I'd say put the guy on 1st.
I've never seen where the ump will not allow a pitching change.
Maybe the ump realized it was Boshers up in the pen and is saving Molitor from himself.
Then again, Duffey looks like a steaming pile tonight.
Can't have two coaching visits during the same at-bat unless an injury.
Duffey doesn't seem super interested in trying to clinch today.
Maybe he wants to do it at home.
Encarnacion play stupid-foolish. Hey, was that Al Newman at 3BC?
Okay, I don't like this back n forth here. Please tell me we have a pitcher that can go more than one inning.
I, ah, I got some bad news for you.
There's a big difference between can and Molitor will allow.
Did anyone hear what of Colon's illness?
Playoff Fever?
Inflamed Colon?
Coughed up runs?
Has the runs?
C'mon guys. Encarnacion gave us a gift out. We do have to get a few on our own.
I bet DIllon Gee is good for like 12 more outs.
Tsk tsk, these people. Don't they know the flag must always fly free and never be carried flat or horizontal?
No, don't score more runs, then they'll want to too
Bumma.
Drum-beating Clevelander is on his phone. It shows you where our society's at right now with all that stuff.
uno wgom peso
SEND HIM!!
To third!
Is Molitor practicing for the wildcard game?
Somebody take Molly's keys away.
I think Sean Henn is going to make an appearance this game.
It would be helpful for Busenitz to throw some strikes.
Bullpen blackout tonight! Time to install the revolving door on the bullpen
And a Bullpen Cart!
Generous called strikeout.
very.
Kepler -v- Miller seems like an unfair fight.
Kepler v Miller? Can he strike out in two pitches?
1-14 with RISP tonight.
Game over?
NEVER! THE TWINS ARE GOING TO
WINGET SCHWIFTY WITH THIS BALLGAME!Wubbalubbadubdub!
Shumshumschilpiddydah!
Well, uh, Texas and Tampa Bay both close to losing so that would eliminate two more teams. Angels unlikely to lose tonight.
Record for most pitchers used in a nine-inning game by the Twins is eight, done three times*. They've used eight tonight.
* You may be surprised to know it's happened in 2011, 2016, and 2017.
Overall record for the Twins is nine.
So 8 or more in 9 innings has been done 4 times by Twins and 3 of those were managed by Molitor. Seems about right.
Bulldozed!!!
I love playoff baseball. That's got to be what this is, right?
Just deep enough!
I'm here. You're welcome.
SCHWIFTY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Does this mean Hildenberger gets the eighth and Belisle the ninth? Can the Twins use more pitchers than innings?
And win?
The record is 12. Happened earlier this month. The Angels did win. Other than that, only two other times has the team won. Coincidentally, they happened
four23 days apart. That's the only three wins in the 50 (really, 20 since it first happened in 1996) years. Also, you may be even more surprised to know that it's only happened in September or October.
Two in the same month. Huh.
It's happened 15 times in all of MLB since 1961. That includes eight inning games, where it's happened eight times; seven times with nine pitchers and once with ten (in 8.2 innings)
How many wins?
Hey, this research takes time!
I was at this debacle on the Valet's first birthday.
That... must have pained you. Did you have to take a sick day the following day? 15 pitchers!
This team, man.
They's goofy
And yet more watchable than the three stooges.
Eh, the Stooges had their schwifty moments.
Spiders guys talking about how Doz has pwnd the jake....
BUXTON!
How far did he have to run to catch that ball? mercy!
https://twitter.com/statcast/status/912872001689309186
56 feet in 3.6 seconds.
That was so close, it looked trapped.
So, buxton is good at baseball?
He does appear to have some natural talent.
Damn! Buxton!
I did not realize Breslow had become a Clevelander.
Looking back at 87 Twins:
I did not remember that the Twins had the 5th best record in the American League that year. Yes, the American League East had 4 teams with better records than the American League West Champion Twins. The 1987 Twins lost their last 5 games, and it did not matter as they had already clinched.
The 2017 Twins have the 5th best record in the American League. They have a bunch of emerging young players who grew up together in the minors, just like the 87 Twins. They have 2 decent starters, just like the 87 Twins.
When Dozier just hit that 3 run shot, it made me think of those 87 Twins who were outgunned, but believed in themselves and found a way to win. Let's not cut short the accolades for this team. It's been a fun ride so far, and who knows... anything can happen.
Twins would have won the 1987 AL West this year too
Rays and Rangers eliminated. Royals hanging on but it may not matter soon.
I like this Buxton guy
Insurance runs are sexy.
if your Twingo card has "10 Twins pitchers" on it, cover it!
Pitcher ten, a new franchise* record for a game of any length. I checked back to as early as Play Index allows and the Senators had a game where they used eight pitchers. None came up with nine pitchers.
Hard to imagine the Senators ever had 10 pitchers on their active roster at any given time.
I'm fine if we forego the obligatory baserunner tonight
You got it!
You know, I liked that! Let's do that next time, too
This is fun!
I know the need to win this game is minimal, but man, is it cool to go do it in Cleveland after this insane run they're on.
Feels good knowing the Yankees are the probable opponent. After that is probably Cleveland again.
Fun Fact: The Twins have never lost during Cecelia's lifetime
If these trends continue...aaayyyyyy
pooches and pyrotechnics!
The Indians had not allowed more than 5 runs since Aug. 24, the first game of their winning streak, a 13-6 win over the Red Sox. In fact, they had allowed more than 4 runs only once since that game, a 6-5 win over the Angels last week. The Indians haven't lost a series since getting swept in a 2-game series at Boston on July 31-Aug. 1. The Twins have won 4 in a row at the Jake and are 6-1 there this season.
