One of my very favorite active bands. This is the best song on their new record.

Guts Club – “Zookeepers”
From 2016's Shit Bug. I'm real excited for the new Guts Club record that they're finishing up now.
Phoebe Bridgers – “Demi Moore”
From the excellently titled Stranger in the Alps.
The Side Eyes – “Guy/Chick”
From their debut, So Sick on In The Red, my favorite record label.
Japanese Breakfast – “The Woman That Loves You”
As the year goes on, I keep finding myself coming back to Psychopomp. It's an album that is over way too fast, but it's impactful over that short running time. I'm glad I got to see them this summer. They were killer live. I have another song below the cut because the video is awesome.

Nadia Reid – “Holy Low”
Don't you hate it when you have a pretty good idea of what your top 10 will be for the year, and then you hear something really excellent close to the end of the year and it throws everything into chaos? Yeah, I thought so!
Anyway, I read about Nadia Reid's debut album Listen to Formation, Look for the Signs (a melancholy album about a break-up by a woman is pretty much my wheelhouse this year) and immediately queued it up on Spotify. And when I finished listening to the album, I started it over again. And then got home and listened to it a few more times. This is pretty much all I listened to while writing papers for school last week. Anyway, here's probably my favorite song from it, "Holy Low."
J said the album gave her feelings of nostalgia that she couldn't quite place, and I totally get that. Her voice evokes a lot of bands I listened to in my late teen years, but I can't quite put my finger on who. Not that it really matters, since I just listen to the album over and over and worry that recency bias will make it too high in my top 10 this year. I suppose that isn't the end of the world when an album is this good.
For whatever it's worth, I think this is my top 10 as constructed today. It'll probably change sometime before the end of the year, but it's something!

Brenda Weiler – Trickle Down
If Hammerhead is my favorite music act to ever come from Fargo, I suppose Brenda Weiler is my second. I had the hugest of crushes on her in high school. I can't remember who told me to listen to her, but she was way outside of what I normally listened to. I just loved her voice, and for whatever reason was thinking about her tonight. I guess she runs a yoga studio downtown now? Anyway, here's a recent recording of her playing the eponymous song from her first record.

Miyazono Kaori – Beethoven Sonata No.9 Op.47 “Kreutzer”
I mentioned in Movie Day that the finale of the anime Your Lie in April started streaming on Thursday so I watched it. The ending was about what I expected, and the show stuck the landing. One of the best shows I've watched in year. Anyway, in honor of that, here's Kaori's first performance from the show, "Kreutzer."

Colleen Green – Pay Attention
So, my obsession with Colleen Green's new album I Want To Grow Up is quite strong. It's a really awesome power pop album full of songs that I relate to. I am freaking out since exactly four weeks from tonight she's going to be playing here at a skate park thing or something. We're not quite a quarter of the way through the year yet, but I'd be shocked if this falls out of my top 10. Anyway, this is "Pay Attention."
