The Jayhawks – Blue

The Jayhawks: Joe Mauer, Justin Morneau, Jose Mijares, Joe Nathan, and Jason Kubel. The Minneapolis group sings the song that best describes the way they are making Twins fans feel this season.

Or it is the 1995 Jayhawks line up on the John Stewart Show? It is one or the other.

First Aid Kit – Waltz For Richard

i found this via a friend's post whilst scrolling through my facebook feed. apparently these guys are gathering some buzz (and you're right, hitman, everyone's ripping off la blogotheque).

i dunno. my early impression is this is what simon and garfunkel might have sounded like in their early years if they were swedish sisters (hell, they kind of look like simon and garfunkel if they were swedish sisters).

Brian Wheat – Looking Alive

One of my best friends recently moved to Minneapolis.  In addition to his duties at a professional teacher of high school biology, he also plays songs. Once he finally sets up some gigs at Minneapolis you had better believe at least a couple of you are going to go. Or I am going to guilt the heck out of you in hopes of making you attend.

Brian Wheat, in Buffalo's famed abandoned Central Terminal, 2011.  Also, man, anyone shooting a music video loves to rip off La Blogotheque, huh?

Ty Segall – Goodbye Bread

while we're on the subject of requests, bootsy asked us to play one a little while back. i told him to post it his damn self, but i guess he's shy, or summthin... in his words:

I'm digging on Goodbye Bread, the new record by Ty Segall. Here's the title track, first as rocking electric version (static imagery, but killer sound)

and then solo in a bathroom [ed: after the jump].

Go West – “The King is Dead”

English pop duo Go West's debut single was the catchy "We Close Our Eyes", and after a little success they hit it big with "The King of Wishful Thinking", which was used in Pretty Women. Well, apparently The King is done wishing, because now he's dead.

This track shows off Peter Cox' fine vocals; all this torch song is missing is a smoky speakeasy. I had a great week -- thanks for playing along.

Joe Hisaishi – “Sixth Station”

Can't be a Rhubarb_Runner week without some soundtrack music. My favorite soundtrack composer playing piano on my favorite song by him. This was used in the movie Spirited Away during the incredibly beautiful and melancholy water train sequence.

And below the break, the composer conducts Princess Mononoke Symphonic Suite (and plays piano), from the movie Princess Mononoke.
