The New Standards – Toxic

I love the concept of "new standards." I enjoy covers and having new bands bring a different take to a song, and I also love that classic standard American songbook, so having it expanded is excellent. All that said, a band embracing that idea is just awesome in my mind. Once again, not regular listening, just great fun. I've sadly never been to one of their shows, but hopefully someday.

I wanted to play their cover of "Hey Ya" but couldn't find a decent version, so "Toxic" will have to do.

A Prairie Home Companion – Lutheran Joke Medley

Look, I ain't Lutheran. But I'm Minnesotan, and that means I can still laugh at 'em.

After discussing Prairie Home Companion recently, I thought this might be a nice share. Bonus, this is taken from a show just over a week ago, so it's all fresh. Yup, you've never heard any of these jokes before.

Weird Al Yankovic & The Roots – Beer Barrel Polka

I know that I listen to plenty of "novelty" music, and do so with some regularity. That's because it's not a novelty to me. I think well done music that is funny, or just plain entertaining, is a pure joy. Long story short, I don't have a specific plan for this week, I'm just hoping to put a few smiles on faces, and maybe garner a laugh or two along the way as well.

Also, do you know how tough it is to find a quality video of Weird Al doing a live performance? Probably the most entertaining concert I've ever been to, and I can't find anything to do it justice. So we get this instead.

Childish Gambino – Freaks and Geeks + Bonfire

This was one of the top three concerts I think I've ever been to in my life. His first set was the entirety of "Because the Internet". Then the encore was the entirety of "Camp". His third encore was assorted other songs, then a freestyle battle with I think Chance the Rapper (?).

"Freaks and Geeks" was the first Childish Gambino song I ever heard. With the title and the performer (Donald Glover from "Community" for the unintiated) I was expecting a funny song. I got about 4 seconds into it before I was disabused of that notion. He's been one of my favorites since.
