After waiting seven years oh my god new Haley dropped with very little fanfare or hype. I adored her first album and had to wait a couple of weeks to work up the nerve to listen to the new one. I didn't want it to disappoint.

James Yorkston, Nina Persson & The Secondhand Orchestra – Hold Out For Love
Not my favorite song from the album but probably my favorite album of the year so far. You may know Nina Perrson from the Cardigans, Soundtrack of Our Lives, A Camp, or being indie Tammy Wynette. She is one of my favorite singers and unsurprisingly she offers some wonderful harmonies here.
Ringo Deathstarr – So High
Making their WGOM debut, I think, meet Ringo Deathstar. Gimmicky names aside feels like what would have happened if My Bloody Valentine listed to pop punk records growing up. I think that is a compliment.
Kelly Buchanan – I Hate To See You Like This
Being funny when writing a song is really hard. Times and tastes change and sometimes a joke isn't funny the 30th time you have heard it.
My two favorite songwriters who are consistently funny are John Prine and the Fountains of Wayne team of Adam Schlesinger and Chris Collingwood.
Adam passed on pretty early on in 2020 from Covid, much like Prine. This recording was from a tribute done in 2021. There is a certain weight to the performance given the reason for the show but I love the way Buchannan belts this out. Great tune, great performance.
Nikki Lane – Send The Sun
Making her first WGOM appearance since 2018, Nikki Lane.
Carson McHone – Drugs
Thanks for having me this past week. It's been nice to be back for a bit. Hope ya'll enjoyed it.
Here is something to really knock your socks off. A real Sunday Morning downer. Probably couldn't play this one during the week, may have hit too hard.

Jeannie C. Riley – The Back Side of Dallas
Sure, you may know Harper Valley but Ms. Riley really starts to let it out on this later single.
From the County Carousel
Caitlin Rose – Shanghai Cigarettes
Here is a tune I came across in the past few years that I really enjoyed. Hope you do too.
Live from Nashville 2021
Brittany Spencer – Sober and Skinny
Over the last year, due almost entirely to the podcast Cocaine and Rhinestones, I have found myself revisiting county music.
If you haven't listened, you should. I would start with the three part series on "Harper Valley PTA" or the episode on the Kershaw Brothers, especially if you love Neil Young (E-6 signal).
I preface with that as a way of saying for the best of 2021 I would have liked to post any number of the songs I discovered from that podcast. Maybe one day I can get a month to share some of these things. Then again I may get booed out by jobu if I try that.
Instead here is something from 2021 that makes me think of the best parts of classic country music with the best parts of today's music. This song is tragic and funny in a way that only country music can be. It feels like John Prine or Bobby Braddock could have written this song and no one would question it
Just great stuff. I hope you enjoyed.
Long Neck – “Elizabeth”
As is often the case, I got into Long Neck because other musicians I follow on Twitter talked them up. Their first record was great, and they just finished a crowdfunding campaign to buy their masters back for their new record from their awful old label. It’s one of the things I am most excited for this year.
