Minor Details: Games of 7/5

Pawtucket 4, Rochester 2 in Rochester (Game 2—Scheduled 7 innings).  The Red Sox scored all their runs in the first three innings.  Nate Roberts singled and homered.  Jeff Bailey had two hits.  Trevor Plouffe was hit his fifteenth homer and walked three times, raising his average to .308.  Delmon Young was 0-for-3.  Starter Cole DeVries surrendered four runs on eight hits and two walks in 2.2 innings.  Thomas Diamond pitched 2.2 scoreless innings despite giving up four hits and three walks.

 

New Hampshire 7, New Britain 2 in New Hampshire.  A four-run fifth put the game away for the Fisher Cats.  Chris Parmelee hit a home run, his seventh.  Brett Jacobson surrendered all seven runs on ten hits and two walks in five innings.  He struck out six.  Deolis Guerra struck out two in two shutout innings.

 

St. Lucie 9, Ft. Myers 2 in St. Lucie.  The Miracle tied the score with two in the sixth, but the Mets took the lead back with two in the bottom of the sixth and took command with five in the seventh.  The Miracle had only four hits.  Kane Holbrooks gave up two runs on nine hits and a walk in five innings.  Ricky Bowen took the loss, surrendering two runs on two hits and a walk in just one inning.

 

Wisconsin 8, Beloit 3 in Beloit.  The Snappers led 3-0 after two, but a four-run fifth gave the Timber Rattlers the lead for good.  Tyler Grimes continued his good start, hitting a homer and a single.  Adam Bryant had a single and a double.  Manuel Soliman allowed six runs on seven hits and a walk in 4.1 innings.

 

Elizabethton 6, Kingsport 4 in Kingsport.  The Twins scored two in the ninth to break a 4-4 tie.  Niko Goodrum had two hits and Miguel Sano hit a three-run homer, his third.  Tim Shibuya allowed four runs on six hits and two walks in four innings, striking out three, but the bullpen came through with five scoreless innings.  Derek Christensen worked two and Pedro Guerra, Madison Boer, and Matthew Summers worked one each.  Boer got the win and Summers the save.

 

GCL Twins 8, Rays 3 at Rays.  A three-run first propelled the Twins to victory.  Michael Quesada hit two home runs, his first two of the season, and drove in six.  Joshua Hendricks had two singles and a double to raise his average to .323.  Phillip Chapman had two doubles, raising his average to .381.  Starter Hein Robb pitched three shutout innings, with perfection being marred only by an error.  Matthew Tomshaw got the win despite allowing two runs (one earned) on a hit.  He struck out two.  Marcus Limon struck out three in three shutout innings.

 

DSL Reds at Twins.  Postponed.

Minor Details: Games of 7/4

Pawtucket 6, Rochester 3 in Rochester.  The Red Sox scored three in the first and three in the fourth.  Trevor Plouffe, Aaron Bates, and Chase Lambin each had two hits, with Bates raising his average to .333.  Delmon Young was 1-for-4 with a double.  Eric Hacker allowed all six runs on four hits and five walks in seven innings.

New Hampshire 11, New Britain 1 in New Hampshire.  The Fisher Cats took a commanding lead with four in the fourth and put it away with five in the eighth.  Mike Hollimon’s home run was the Rock Cats’ only run.  The Rock Cats made four errors.  Bobby Lanigan struck out seven in six innings, but gave up six runs (one earned) on nine hits and a walk.

Ft. Myers 9, St. Lucie 5 in St. Lucie.  The Miracle scored five in the third and never trailed.  Oswaldo Arcia had four hits including a double and drove in three.  James Beresford had three hits and scored three times.  Danny Rams singled and homered, driving in three.  Anderson Hidalgo had two hits to raise his average to .306.  Logan Darnell went seven innings, giving up three runs on eight hits and two walks.  Andrew Albers struck out three in two shutout innings to get the save.

Wisconsin 11, Beloit 8 in Beloit (11 innings).  The Snappers led 6-1 after three, but fell behind and needed a run in the bottom of the ninth to send the game to extra innings.  Jairo Perez singled and homered, driving in four but dropping his average to .410.  Daniel Ortiz singled and doubled.  Nate Roberts and Michael Gonzales each had two hits.  Ryan O’Rourke struck out eight in 5.2 innings, giving up three runs (two earned) on eight hits with no walks.  Michael Tonkin took the loss, surrendering three runs (two earned) on four hits and a walk in 1.1 innings.  The Snappers made four errors.

Greeneville 6, Elizabethton 3 in Elizabethton.  The Astros scored four in the fifth.  The Twins had seven hits, but no Twin had more than one.  David Hurlbut allowed four runs on nine hits in four innings.  He did not walk anyone.

GCL Twins 3, Rays 2 at Twins (Game 1).  The Twins fell behind 2-0 after three, but scored single runs in the fourth, sixth, and seventh.  The Twins had six hits, but no Twin had more than one.  Ricardo Arevalo struck out five in three innings, giving up two runs (one earned) on three hits and a walk.  Tyler Herr got the win with two shutout innings.  Kyle Wahl also pitched two shutout innings to get the save.

GCL Twins 6, Rays 2 at Rays (Game 2).  The Twins scored four in the eighth to overcome a 2-1 deficit.  Joshua Hendricks was 3-for-3 with two walks.  Michael Quesada singled and doubled, scoring three times.  Starter Angel Mata struck out five in three innings, giving up four hits and a walk.  The win went to Luis Nunez, who struck out nine in four hitless innings, walking two.  Nick Cicio struck out four in two perfect innings of relief.

DSL Twins at Rockies.  Postponed.

Minor Details: Games of 7/3

Lehigh Valley 3, Rochester 1 in Lehigh Valley.  The IronPigs scored single runs in the first, sixth, and eighth.  The Red Wings had only five hits.  Andrew Baldwin struck out seven in 6.1 innings, but gave up two runs on five hits and two walks to take the loss.

New Britain 9, Harrisburg 3 in New Britain.  The Rock Cats scored in six of the eight innings they batted.  Mike Hollimon doubled and homered.  Chris Parmelee singled and homered.  Danny Rohlfing singled and doubled, driving in three.  Yangervis Solarte and Mark Dolenc each had two hits, with Solarte raising his average to .332.  Liam Hendriks struck out seven in seven innings, giving up two runs on four hits and a walk to raise his record to 8-2.

Charlotte 6, Ft. Myers 0 in Ft. Myers.  The Miracle was out-hit 16-7.  James Beresford and Jamaal Hawkins each had two hits, with Hawkins raising his average to .321.  Tom Stuifbergen surrendered four runs on seven hits in just 2.2 innings to take the loss.  Matt Hauser pitched two shutout innings.

Wisconsin 5, Beloit 4 in Beloit.  The Snappers led 4-2 after seven, but the Timber Rattlers scored two in the eighth and one in the ninth.  Tyler Grimes had two hits.  Adrian Salcedo gave up two runs (one earned) on seven hits and two walks in 6.2 innings.  Jose Gonzalez struck out three in 1.1 innings, but allowed an unearned run on two hits and two walks.  Three of the five Timber Rattler runs were unearned.

Greeneville 3, Elizabethton 2 in Elizabethton.  The Astros scored three in the first and it was all they needed.  Max Kepler had two doubles and Miguel Sano singled and tripled.  Cesar Ciurcina gave up three runs on five hits, walking none and striking out four in five innings.  Bart Carter struck out six in three perfect innings.  Matthew Summers struck out the side in his only inning.

Minor Details: Games of 7/2

Lehigh Valley 1, Rochester 0 in Lehigh Valley.  The IronPigs scored the game’s lone run in the eighth.  Dustin Martin singled and doubled.  Scott Diamond took a complete game loss, giving up five hits, walking none, and striking out five.  The Red Wings stranded nine runners.

Harrisburg 11, New Britain 3 in New Britain (Game 1—Scheduled 7 innings).  The Senators scored eight in the first two innings.  Brian Dozier doubled and tripled, raising his average to .368 in 61 at-bats.  Yangervis Solarte had two hits to raise his average to .324.  Starter Steve Hirschfeld lasted only 1.1 innings, surrendering eight runs on eight hits and three walks.

Harrisburg 9, New Britain 3 in New Britain (Game 2—Scheduled 7 innings).  The Senators scored three in the third to take a lead they would never relinquish.  Yangervis Solarte had two singles and a double, raising his average to .330.  Evan Bigley singled and doubled.  Starter Blake Martin pitched just three innings, allowing four runs (two earned) on three hits and three walks while striking out three.

Ft. Myers 9, Charlotte 3 in Ft. Myers.  The Miracle scored five in the first.  Danny Rams singled and hit a three-run homer.  James Beresford singled and tripled.  Anderson Hidalgo singled and doubled.  Reggie Williams and Nick Romero each had two hits.  Oswaldo Arcia hit a two-run homer.  Aaron Hicks left the game in the first inning after drawing a walk—no reason was given.  Pat Dean got the win, giving up two runs on five hits and two walks in 5.1 innings.  Matt Schuld pitched 2.2 scoreless innings, striking out three.

Beloit 7, Kane County 2 in Kane County.  The Snappers scored three in the third and three more in the fifth.  Michael Gonzales singled and doubled.  Nate Roberts hit a solo homer and Daniel Santana hit a two-run homer.  B. J. Hermsen struck out ten in seven innings, giving up a run on four hits and two walks.

Kingsport 8, Elizabethton 6 in Elizabethton.  The Twins tied it with a run in the eighth, but the Mets scored two in the ninth to win.  Roy Larson had two doubles and a single.  Kennys Vargas hit a two-run homer.  Justin Parker allowed five runs (two earned) on five hits in 4.1 innings, walking none and striking out none.  Madison Boer pitched the ninth.

GCL Red Sox 3, Twins 1 at Twins.  The Red Sox broke a scoreless tie with three in the seventh.  Aderlin Mejia  and Joshua Hendricks each had two hits.  Starter Bobby O’Neill pitched three shutout innings, giving up two hits and no walks.  Marcus Limon followed with two shutout innings, striking out three.  Markus Solbach took the loss, allowing two runs (none earned) on a hit and a walk in 1.1 innings.

DSL Twins 4, Cubs1 3 at Twins.  Ronald Jimenez singled with two out in the ninth to drive in the winning run. Felix Gallardo had two hits.  Starter Reyson Zoquiel gave up two runs on four hits and three walks in four innings.  Edgar Martinez pitched three perfect innings to get the win.

New Britain 4, Harrisburg 3 in New Britain.  The Rock Cats broke a 3-3 tie in the bottom of the ninth when Chris Parmelee led off with a single, went to second on a bunt, took third on a ground out, and scored on a wild pitch.  The Senators made four errors.  Parmelee and Brian Dozier each had three hits, with Dozier raising his average to .358 in 53 at-bats.  Deibinson Romero singled and homered.  Dennis Suarez gave up three runs on eight hits and a walk in six innings.  Deolis Guerra pitched two shutout innings.  Tyler Robertson worked a scoreless ninth for the win.

Ft. Myers 0, St. Lucie 0 at Ft. Myers (1 innings—suspended).  Game will be completed on August 23.

Beloit 6, Kane County 4 in Kane County.  The Snappers scored three in the eighth to overcome a 6-4 deficit.  Jairo Perez singled, doubled, and homered, raising his average to .417 in 72 at-bats.  Starter Andrew Achter allowed all four runs on nine hits and a walk in four innings, although he struck out seven.  Nelvin Fuentes worked three perfect innings to get the win, striking out three.  Clinton Dempster threw two shutout innings, allowing just a walk to get the save.

Kingsport 15, Elizabethton 10 in Elizabethton.  The Twins were down 10-2 after five and a half and scored eight in the sixth to tie, but the Mets scored five in the seventh to win.  Max Kepler had three hits.  Kennys Vargas singled and homered, driving in three.  Justin Parker singled and doubled and JaDamion Williams had two hits.  Starter Todd Van Steensel allowed five runs (four earned) on five hits and two walks in 4.1 innings.  He struck out six.  Pedro Guerra took the loss, surrendering five runs (three earned) on four hits and two walks in 1.1 innings.  There were nine errors in the game; the Mets made five and the Twins four.

GCL Red Sox 3, Twins 2 at Red Sox.  The score was 2-1 after one and stayed there until the fifth, when the Red Sox scored two.  Joshua Hendricks singled and tripled.  Estarlin De Los Santos and Drew Leachman each had two hits.  Jeff Manship allowed a run on four hits in three innings, striking out three and walking none.  Hung Yi Chen allowed the fifth inning runs to take the loss, giving up four hits in three innings.  Tyler Herr went two shutout innings, giving up one hit.

DSL Twins 9, Orioles 1 at Orioles.  The Twins scored in seven innings.  Erick Gonzalez had two singles and a homer, raising his average to .324 in 74 at-bats.  Eddy Concepcion had two singles and a double.  Ernesto Ciprian and Javier Pimentel each singled and tripled and Adonis Pacheco singled and doubled, raising his average to .321 in 84 at-bats.  Sterling Bonilla gave up an unearned run on one hit in four innings, striking out four.  Randy Rosario allowed only a walk in three shutout innings, also striking out four to get the win.

Rochester is 30-48, sixth (last) in the IL North, 15 games behind Lehigh Valley.  They have lost five in a row and are 3-7 in their last ten games.

New Britain is 41-35, third in the EL East, 4.5 games behind New Hampshire and Trenton.  They have lost three in a row and are 5-5 in their last ten games.

Ft. Myers is 37-41, second in the FSL South, 5.5 games behind St. Lucie.  They won their last game and are 3-7 in their last ten games.

Myers (Game 2—Scheduled 7 innings).  The Miracle scored two in the first and one in the fourth to build a 3-0 lead.  Anderson Hidalgo hit a two-run homer and Aaron Hicks hit a solo homer.  Those were the only hits the Miracle had, as they were out-hit 9-2.  Kane Holbrooks gave up a run on six hits in six innings, walking none and striking out five.

Kane County 4, Beloit 3 in Kane County.  The Cougars scored three in the bottom of the eighth to overcome a 3-1 deficit.  Wang-wei Lin had three hits.  Daniel Ortiz hit a home run.  Manuel Soliman gave up an unearned run on three hits and two walks, striking out five in six innings.  Michael Tonkin took the loss, surrendering the eighth inning runs in his second inning of work.  He struck out three, but allowed three hits and walked two.

Elizabethton 2, Kingsport 0 in Elizabethton.  The Twins scored both of their runs in the fifth inning on Tyler Koelling’s two-run homer.  Koelling also singled.  Nick Lockwood singled and doubled to raise his average to .364 in 33 at-bats.  Max Kepler had two hits.  Tim Shibuya struck out six in six innings, giving up two hits and two walks.  Sam Spangler struck out three in two innings, allowing one hit to get the save.

GCL Twins 1, Rays 1 at Rays (Game suspended in the top of the sixth.)  Each team has four hits.  Joshua Hendricks had two of them for the Twins.  Angel Mata struck out five in three innings, giving up a run on four hits and a walk.  Luis Nunez pitched two perfect innings, striking out four.

DSL White Sox 5, Twins 1 at Twins.  The Twins out-hit the White Sox 5-4 but made three errors.  Adonis Pacheco doubled and tripled.  Jose Jimenez took the loss, giving up two runs (one earned) on three hits and a walk, striking out three in four innings.  Ezequiel Zarzuela pitched two perfect innings.

Pawtucket 4, Rochester 1 in Pawtucket.  The Red Sox scored three in the sixth to break a 1-1 tie.  The Red Wings had only two hits in the game, both singles, and struck out fourteen times.  Eric Hacker gave up two runs on eight hits and a walk in 5.2 innings to take the loss.

Portland 4, New Britain 3 in Portland.  The Sea Dogs’ Alex Hassan led off the bottom of the ninth with a walk-off homer off Bruce Pugh.  Five Rock Cats had one hit each.  Bobby Lanigan gave up three runs on six hits and three walks in six innings.  Tony Davis pitched 1.2 scoreless innings despite giving up a hit and four walks.

St. Lucie at Ft. Myers.  Postponed.  Game will be made up as part of a doubleheader this evening.

Beloit 14, Clinton 5 in Clinton.  The Snappers scored eight runs in the third.  Michael Gonzales hit two homers and a single, driving in five and raising his average to .305.  Jairo Perez had a homer and two singles, raising his average to .406 in 64 at-bats.  Daniel Santana had two singles and a double, Wang-wei Lin singled and doubled, and Nate Roberts had two hits.  Ryan O’Rourke got the win, striking out six in five innings while giving up two runs on five hits and a walk.

Elizabethton 4, Johnson City 3 in Johnson City.  The Twins scored two in the eighth to take a 4-1 lead, then hung on.  Eddie Rosario hit two solo homers to raise his average to .395 in 38 at-bats.  Matej Hejma hit a two-run homer in the eighth.  David Hurlbut was the winner, giving up a run on five hits in five innings.  Bart Carter struck out four in two shutout innings.  Madison Boer pitched the final 1.1 innings, giving up a hit and striking out two for the save.

GCL Rays 2, Twins 0 at Twins.  The Twins out-hit the Rays 7-4.  Phillip Chapman and Kelly Cross each had two hits.  Hein Robb struck out six in four hitless innings, walking two.  Cole Johnson pitched two shutout innings.  Mark Trau took the loss, giving up a run on a hit and two walks.

DSL Twins 5, Diamondbacks 2 at Twins.  The Twins scored three in the first and two in the seventh.  Ernesto Ciprian had a triple and two singles, driving in three.  Ronald Jimenez had two hits.  Jose Abreu pitched four shutout innings, giving up three hits and a walk.  Felix Jorge and Elias Villasana each pitched two shutout innings, with Jorge striking out four.  Yeison Florentino retired the final two batters of the game to get the save.
